Title: New Years Eve
Post by: Rog on 27 December 2013, 23:19:09
I'm just wondering how many people actually make some effort to "Do Something" on New years  Eve.

It's always struck me that NYE is all about a lot people putting a lot of time, money and effort into NOT enjoying themselves.

The last couple of years SWMBO and I have gone out for a quite boozy late lunch, gone home before the crowds arrive and polished off another bottle of plonk at home in front of telly. Seem to work quite well, for us.

Even as a teenager, I recall going out with mates for a big NYE night out, that usually ended up not being so "big".

. . . . . . what are you up to ? We'll probably stick with Plan A as above.

Going down to my local social club. They have a meal / music for those that want it in the function hall and a bar for those that don't. Years ago it used to be paid for entertainment rather than a meal and both sides would be absolutely packed, but these days the bar is normally fairly quiet and the evening a bit flat.

So I will see the new year in with the wife and her family at 10pm where Ukraine is 2 hours ahead and then wander down for a few drinks to see in the new year in the UK. NYE used to be a real drinking night for me, but not anymore.

When I was younger than I am now  ::) NYE used to be a massive piss up with the opportunity to snog as many girls as you could at midnight!!!  :y :y :y

These days it's all a bit calmer though......  :(

I quite like an early meal followed by theatre although not this year I suspect or at least not planned anything as yet. I have done the London fireworks in the past but not enjoyable these days with so many people attending.

We do a safari meal in our village, in evening dress, 5 couples, and have done the same for the last 30 years. All still married to the same partners, and all still above ground! Is this a record? ??? ??? ???

Years ago round here nearly every house had a Hogmanay party and folk would wander from house to house. All change now, most folk dont bother at all on 31st but New Year's Day is the day when everyone heads to the pubs in town.
Around 1pm I'll be in "the hole in he wa" one of Dumfries's oldest pubs. By 2-2.30 it will be jam packed and around 3pm the piper comes in. Great stuff. Afterwards its a tour around town ending up in my local around 6.30 until yon time :) can't wait.

Lots of people will be visiting that, but it won't be a pub.

Should of tried Edinburgh as  youf. Off the scale.

Did that in Dec 1999. Managed to get street party tickets that were allocated by lottery. Had a great time - but incredibly expensive !

Wasn't aware that I had a daughter (currently aged 27) for the first 24½ years of her life (the mother is Jeremy Kyle material), but we've made pretty good progress over the last 2½ years (thanks to the advent of DNA) and I'll be taking her out for a meal, possibly a club, and definitely a bloody good chinwag tomorrow night.

Years ago we used to hit the pub and then around the houses, sometimes even ending up with breakfast; fried egg sandwiches........... ;) ;)

Been more restricted last few years so we simply stay in and my Mum and Dad come up for a few drinks and supper, so far managing to keep Miss Vamps in....... ;) ;) ;D
