Solaris ain't great under VMWare (though tempted to give it a go), and yet to find a really good, multithreaded, Perl implementation on Windoze. So stuck with crappy old Linux for now.

Am I to assume that Linux is on T.B`s (getting ever longer) "Gay" list? ;D
-
I blinked and it was gone. :(
I had a look on the Caterer site as I know some members ocasionally visit, I was the only one on. It is a shame they dont enjoy the membership enthusiasm we have on here.
:) :) :)

may I suggest that there might be problem with your qualification more then with linux itself?
I'm using it couple years at home, a bit at work - all the problems I've had - were "/dev/curve/hands" problem then linux itself ;)
p.s. may be I can help?

Unfortunately, I have to support the useless OS day in day out at work - which is why I have an inherent distrust of it ;D. Linux seems to have picked out all the bad bits from both Unix and Windows :-/

I doubt if anyone could live long enough to pick out all the bad bits in Unix. :)
Linux is now a government standard - there's a recommendation for you :)
But I really don't think I'd want to use Windows as a platform for any high security, high performance system involving more than, say, a couple of hundred users.
It's quite a difficult choice these days. :)

The government projects I work on tend to use either Solaris or Windows.
Windows is pretty secure if built and maintained properly, certainly moreso than Linux imho. Scales up to a point, but realy dependent on app and how its written.
The only one of those 3 that I have ever had compromised on a internet connection is Linux. The kernel decided that IPTABLES no longer needed any process time. Never had an attack on a Windows box that was successful that was the fault of the core OS.
