Title: shocked and stunned......
Post by: hotel21 on 03 June 2008, 16:47:48
The road tax for both my Omega and the wifes car are due at the end of the month and the reminders from DVLA arrived in the post this morning.   Nothing strange there, I hear you all say.....

Except that, for the first time that I am aware of, DVLA sent both to me in the same envelope with only one load of junk mail....

Looks like someone, somewhere, has finally got their act partially together and saved at least one second class stamp from getting wasted....   :y

Yes, it must be.  With all the millions to be raised with the extra Road Tax they do not need to save on second class stamps!
 ;D ;D :y

Same as are Building Society statements I get one, so does Den and both daughters, never understand why they don't send them all in the same envelope :-?

Data Protection Act will be the quoted answer ... legally you have no right to see the details of someone elses account, and if its a joint account everyone has to be informed .. so all sent under seperate cover ... the fact that you can open them if you wish is irrelevant..... but I believe that opening an envelope NOT addressed to you is also breaking some Post office law.

Bureaucracy gone mad ....

Is it not a machine that does it, so I would think a mistake. :)

Are you using the car anyway though? I taxed my Mig online yesterday and then took it for a run out, with a Nov 07 tax disc, I feel that as it is all computerised, it would show as taxed to the Police so I am OK, it is parked on my drive. :)

You can be done for 'failure to display' so I am not using the Kawasaki :(

Failing to have and failing to display are two seperate but obviously linked offences.

failing to have is self explanatory, failing to display is where the crappy disc holder has failed and the disc, despite being valid for several generations to come, is lying face down on the floor and so the Traffic warden zaps you for it....    :'(

Have you chased them up then?  they say 5 days, though in my experience they arrive in 2 days. :)

I almost had this - pulled for no disc and we both saw it slide into the dash :o
