Title: Cortina&Sierra
Post by: BazaJT on 02 January 2014, 17:47:33
On my morning walk to work today I was passed by a Xreg Cortina estate, can't recall last time I saw one of those. From the brief look I got of it it appeared to be pretty mint too!Of course it was in the ubiquitous beige[were they all that colour?]Then just as I was leaving work this evening what should roll up but a Sierra! This one was a Kreg four door Sapphire Azura in white.Like the 'Tina this morning it appeared to be in very good nick, and I can't recall the last time I saw one of those either.Talk about blasts from the past!!

My uncle has an absolutely minter of a Sierra Estate. Its a D reg from '86. Treats it like his baby, totally original not a scratch on it inside or out, garaged every night, serviced twice a year and has something like 40k on the clock. Looks like it just came off the production line.

My aunty keeps trying to get him to upgrade it but he won't. He says it does him proud  :y

Most Cortinas eneded their life on the banger tracks while the sierras got bought up by the stock car fraternity as a body dropped over the steel bar frame the basicly race with.
Mate of mine has a Mk1 cortina that was the 1962 motor show car at earls Court that year. It has some quirky bits on it as being a four door car, no production four doors were realesed for sale until January 1963. He has the origional bi;ll of sale as he bought it from the origional owner

The P4 was the toughest of Bangers on the track  ;)

Evening all,
I use my Sierra most days-it's a 93 2.0GLXi auto. My Father bought it off his brother in law in 2000 and I've had it since he died in 2004. Returns 30mpg around town (I had an early Sierra 2.0 carb manual years ago which would only do 24mpg around town) and got 39mpg on a run to Gatwick (brim to brim).
Bodywork is very good- a few bubbles around the rear wheel arches.
Have been asked a few times to sell it-but never will.

It's a cracking cruiser!

Steve

In 1992 I bought my 1st automatic; a blue 4 door 2.3 Ghia Sierra. Reg: EVX 99Y.
The equipment level was great! I looked after it as best as I could at the time but when the gearbox went I had to say goodbye.
A friend had a well spec'd Cortina back in the 90's. Reg DKL 122Y. She kept that in good condition.

No.  I had a white, red, beige, and finally a MkV deep blue, V reg, Cortina Estate.  The MkV I loved the most and still wish I could have kept it........but the 'all new' Vx Cavalier took over! :y :y

I had 2 Sierra's.

1st (and the best), 1.8GL Sapphire in White. 1989 F Reg. Fantastic car

2nd (Shed in comparison), 2.0Ghia Hatchback in Grey. 1992 J Reg. Lots of toys, but no where near as good a drive as the 1.8 was.

Would love to have another one, just for a day.  :)

Mine was an E reg 2.8 facelift, no aircon, but no abs either :o

Was immense fun right upto the point that all four wheels locked up whilst slowing from 100+ to a roundabout :-X

Young and stooopid is great ::) part ex'd it for an L reg 2.0 Granada Scorpio instead of killing myself in it...

My dad had the Sierra sapphire Cosworth in burgundy . Went like poo off a stick. He traded it in after 5 years of ownership for a Jag XJ6 and regretted it almost immediately .

Iirc they were basically LX spec with alloys, rear discs and 4wd. Mine also had a sunroof, and was black.

I think being black was the only factory option fitted :-\
