Post by: omegod on 04 January 2014, 13:53:15
Been with them for a while and all ok, just tried to transfer the deposit to our wedding photographer and apparently I need a card reader gadget like a pin and chip device to do this, FFS I have heard nothing more ridiculous in my life. Online banking is meant to be easy.............anyway they are sending me one >:(

We also have one with Nationwide online banking.

However, if you have a set of personal data.....e.g memorable date/place /time, the system can be bypassed.

Yep, although its a normal card reader (any Bank one will do) for id and access you still need a special Red Card to make online Transaction to pay people.

Try ringing the 24hr Telephone Banking People, if you have on-line access the passwords etc should be the same. there number is 01159 500526 and get through to the Operator if you cannot sign in on the phone.

They will probably try and palm you off by saying you need to pop in to your NatWest Bank on Monday to arrange things like this. Just tell them your overseas and things normally get done straight away.

Also with Nat West, and have a card reader,I've only it used twice to transfer money and the second time it got thrown against the wall because it's one of those things if you don't use it on a regular basis then you have to follow the instructions and I am SO impatient I'd rather go to the bank and do it in person ???

Yea, used to do the same Rob, and worked for small amounts, then one day when I tried to pay a large amount it all stopped working, after a lot of fuffing around, outcome was I needed the new Red Card which they sent me.

And it took about 14 days to arrive  :(

HSBC have a small calculator type of device, you enter a pin and it generates a code that you enter with your password. Easy, convenient and to date it has worked flawlessly with the minimum of hassle.  :y :y :y :y

With Santander on-line banking it couldn't be easier.

Just log on, enter transfer details and send, which with amounts you will receive a separate text on your mobile with a code number to enter on the transfer details.  All done within minutes. :y :y :y :y

They all do that these days. Added security against online fraud. Sounds like you've slipped through the net, they really should have sent you one some time ago. Nat west are indeed shite ime.
