Title: German front suspension kit - any experience, views on it?
Post by: terry paget on 04 January 2014, 20:10:20
Just stumbled across this kit on e-bay. In the past I have bought similar ATE kits and found them good value.

What sort of life can be expected from these Al?

Obviously I'd swap the bushes out for poly and gm before even considering fitting, but others may not be in the same position to do that, with long term ownership in mind. :)

Having said that, it does make a change for a manufacturer to actually put their name on parts at this end of the price range.

Drop links and rear bushes lasted 20k on mine, but I'm not exactly gentle with it... At that price, they might be the difference between scrapping a car and getting another two or three years out of it... :-\

Think they have a reasonable warranty too... Will post link up when I get home :y

Ok, and for others reading, you use poly on the front bush, which means removing the original rubber bush?

Yup, fitted bush out, poly in, fit to car :y same could also be done with rear bush and ball joint rivets if you really want to plan ahead...

Link as promised...

Warranty info down the page :y

If you already have polys then it makes sense to fit the to the arms before fitting to the car, but if not, no matter, just get the polys as and when ready for when the original bushes fail :y

From my own experience, every new arm I have fitted since the 2011 Lakes meet has been poly bushed prior to fitting, including the ones in the link above, so I cannot comment on the wear rates of the front bush, but I would expect these parts to last 20k miles :-\

Whilst that isn't great, they are more durable than the prices suggest ime...

Thanks Al. I thought they had stopped doing the ATE set. I have bought three in the past and found them good value. I like the two year warranty, and the sound of 'bearing sleeves attenuated (oil) hydraulic', though never understood it. Does it mean the track rod threads were oiled before assembly? I note they only charge carriage on the first kit; tempting.

Put it another way, that price will buy you a pair of diabolical Delphi wishbones :D

I fitted a complete ATP kit back in the summer, transformed the car's handling, and have had two more kits arrive on Friday and they will be fitted in the next couple of weeks, they seem good value for money better than some of the stuff that's on offer on Ebay. :y

I would infer that this refers to the oil filled sacks which are in the front bushes

That being the case, its impressive they have managed to get oil bladders in the front bushes at that price. Usually, at that price range, its a solid lump of rubber ime.

I guess the proof would be if oil came out when removing them to fit poly. Al?
