any one know wat i would all have to change if i was putting a 3.0 heart into a 2.5v6 car, could i put all the 2.5 stuff on it like allt, starter. powersteering, also plenum ect or would it drop power unless it had a 3.0 air intake system and ecu?
-
Straight swap :y
It will even run on the 2.5 ecu with a very slight power drop.
Be warned though, if you have a 2.5 auto box (ar25) replace it with the ar35 because the extra torque will kill it big style ;)
If its a manual (R25), you should be okay if the box is in good condition but again it will die like mine did if you abuse it :-X
Very important bit this .............. if you keep the 2.5's loom, don't use the 3ltrs throttle body. refit the one off the 2.5 or it won't work.
-
deffinitly will be abused ;D, but if i use 3.0 ecu as i have one lying here and the 2.5 throttle boddy will it loose any power?
-
If your 3ltr lump comes with a loom then fit that and keep the 3ltr body.
You only need to swap if you use the 2.5's loom.
What shape plenum do you have because if you go from a short nose 2.5 to a long nose 3ltr then you will need the longer throttle cable ;)

im doing the swap atm why will the throttle bodys not work ?
3.0L on a 2.5L loom ?

Didn't on mine.
Used the 2.5 one with no problems :y

mines is the short noes plenum, any one know of a 3.0 heart in northern ireland?

IIRC, the wiring of the throttle pot is different, so ideally keep loom, throttle body and ECU from the same donor.
Throttle body is the same diameter anyway, if memory serves?

gud stuff thanks for the help :y

And while I remember, another little bit of useful information ;)
The bracket on the side of the plenum which holds the throttle cable is different on the two engines so make sure you have the right bracket for the right throttle body or the cable will approach at the wrong angle.
This has a tendency to hold the throttle open a fraction and causes all sorts of problems with the idling ;)
I still have the all the bits needed from mine :)
Pm me if interested :y
