Well I think I'm going to have to trade my v6 for a diesel as I'm now going to be traveling from kidsgrove (north staffordshire) to uttoxeter as I have taken on a different store. I'm going to try and find a 2.2 dti omega but I know nothing about them.
Id consider a clean 2.5td as it's mainly dual carriageway work.
Can someone give me a basic run through (reliability, mpg ect) :y
Failing that it will be down the zafira dti or c max route.
(May be in the wrong section)

Some advice given here recently

I have a clean 2.5TD Estate here that I am going to offer up shortly. You may find pics in the gallery under my name. Cant post pics my self, got Twiglet and Albitz to do them for me

I'll bare that in mind buddy. Need to shift the v6 first :o
-
LPG the V6? If I had to use the 3.2 for commuting, I would pay to have it converted. As I know it, had lots done to it as well.
-
As far as mpg goes, iirc the 2.5td would get about 40 on a run (from old threads) and I can get around 35 ish from my 2.6.
Just make sure it's worth it for you :y
-
AS much as I liked my old 2.5TD Manual Estate, think if I was to do it all over again it would have to a Manual Chipped 3.0 with LPG.
Averaging 33 t0 38 mpg on a good Petrol run, would equate to (doing the £ numbers game) around 55 to 65 on a LPG run. :y

Best I get out of my TD auto Estate on a run is about 35. Cruising at 70 plus. And before TB asks, without the vicious fan. :-X

If making such a change would be tempted to go the Signum route but make sure you check out the DMF if buying a manual.

Has anybody on here had there 3.2 ecu remapped then run it on lpg ?
I know that remapping can give you a little extra grunt / better fuel economy but would you get similar benefits afterwards when running on gas (after the lpg was remapped) ?
Sorry for the slight thread drift ::)

Yep, have a Manual 3.2 Plod Saloon thats had its ECU remapped plus a performance Exhuast, although I've no idea how the LPG ECU is mapped?, just hooked on the end of it as far as I know.
Whilst the Remap on the 3.2 makes the car feel like it has more grunt, in particular when accelerating, cant honestly say it gives much improvement on overall MPG, having said all that Ive always had a Bee in my Bonnet about the poor economy of the 3.2 compared to the earlier 3.0's.
I've played about with a few chips, or mapping if you like, on the 3.0's, to include SuperChips, Courtenay Tunning, some Plod ones plus others, and found overall whilst they seem offer small BHP gains, they do improve drive ability and improve MPG on the car.
Hence my post further up regarding a Chipped 3.0 LPG vs 2.5TD. ;

Just to add to Dan's original post re MPG on the 2.5TD's. My Manual Estate TD would do 37 mpg around London, fully loaded with Tools and Crap in the back, and around 44 on a run, with the car completely empty and just my Bum in there I could just about hit the magic 50 MPG if I tried hard enough but soon got bored with that.
If your going down the TD route definitely get a Manual and get it chipped, the Auto's just kill MPG in town, and fit a cruise stalk for the longer journeys.
Would I have another one, probably would if the price, colour and Spec was right, there good Torque pullers when fully loaded, but if I wasn't bothered about loosing some space in the back with a LPG Tank, then it would have to be a chipped 3.0 on Gas. ;)

Cheers Chris :)
This car is a keeper for a long time if I get my way so looking for ways to get more mpg out of the 3.2 (yes I know ) ::) ;D
What sort of price are we looking at to remap a 3.2 ?

Cheers Chris :)

Well, yours being a 3.2 MV6 you might want to consider fitting a Manual Box if your serious about keeping the car, thats going to make the biggest difference on MPG especially when your pottering about.
On the DBW Remapping side, I know a guy locally who messes with Auto ECU for a living, we had a chat recently about this and he is going to have a look at my 3.2 remap and see whats going on in there, when he gets 5 mins spare.
We also had a chat about the possibility of having a switchable remap for economy and power with the possibility of using the throttle position as detecting the changes and maybe using a more economy map when running on LPG.
All above my capabilities Im afraid and early days yet, but might be worth holding back for a while if your thinking of a remap, never know if something comes of it might be better to do a group remap or something to make it all worth while.
Not had a DBW remap done of late, but believe the charges currently in the range of 250 to 400.

Keep us upto date on this please Chris, sounds like a cunning plan :y
Loved my old 3lt manual estate with the 15 inch wheels and sloppy suspension.
In fact, I drove it a dam sight quicker A to B then this one i'm driving now days :(
I started making tentative enquires on here last year then the world turned to shite again for me so it went straight out of the window like most things :'(
All depends on cost and time off the road I suppose :-\
-
Well I'm going to put the v6 up for sale. My daily drive is going to be 60-80 miles so may even need to down size as with baby on the way and moving house I need to think about economy more.

Will do, if you do swap in a Manual Box, your also need to swap the diff to a 3.7 to keep the Speed / Rev ratio standard or your be pumping 3000 revs at 70 mph if you keep the auto one in there.
Or, if your feeling brave and want a bit more economy with a Manual, fit a 3.45 Diff from a Diesel, with a slight loss on acceleration (in theory) probably more noticeable in 1st gear, although I wouldn't have thought it would make that difference on acceleration when you have 5 gears to play with.
-
Auto is costly but lovely.
My 2.5 seems to do <40m/gal on mototway at ,100mph! Terrible round town though (17...). Gas conversion would be my favourite in your position. :y

Got a 3.7 diff on the scrapper on the side of the house.
Can the diff be removed and keep the rear wheels on ?
Reason being, the car is sat on some grass and will need to be rolled when I finally get round to scrapping it :)
Will it be better to keep the drive shaft too ?
Manual box is off a 2.6 so no good for the transplant :-\
I'll start another thread about this in omega help I think :y
-
Yes, remove rear section of prop shaft (or cable tie it up( remove rear drive shafts and drop diff.

if you want economy 6 pots is a wrong starting point even with diesel.. and its a complicated engine with expensive parts..
also I must note mig is a heavy car.. in every traffic light you stop ,you have to accelerate 1.7 ton lump.. and an auto definitely will help :D ;D

Time for a spanner in the works.
Auto tractor mpg total s*&^e you need a manual.
Best option for you is either a skoda vrs diesel (170 bhp standard) or the A4 tdi S-Line (Skoda being the cheaper with the S-Line engine) don't knock the Skoda because there the Guinea-pigs for VW/Audi or the volvo V70 D5 all three are great on fuel easy 50mpg and all the power you need.

Two things to add to that...
1. 4 VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda diesel injectors cost the same as a brand new crate V6 from Vauxhall.
2. The Volvo D5 lump likes a new head gasket every 50k if driven hard.
Happy evening :y

There are...
One of theses for example...
http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=SSE-AD-2471155&Cr=10 (http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=SSE-AD-2471155&Cr=10)
The Jag XF estate would cut the mustard, but it's diesel only, and rear legroom is borderline... for work purposes, any prospective car must have 180mm clear space between the back of the front seat and the front of the backseat, measured with the drivers seat in its rearmost position. :-\
I won't buy french, two Peugeots and a Renault put paid to that... ;D
If you're desperate to buy a car to save money, then the only choices are either a 1.8d Mk4 Fiesta or a Mk 3 diesel Astra, as both are actually bombproof, otherwise, for the sake of some unleaded, the Omega is a tough act to follow... :y

As long as you get one with the Isuzu lump in ;)

That Holden Calais looks nice and I reckon would set you back approximately £22,000 if you shipped it here and paid the duty and VAT etc. :)
Alternatively you could save the hassle and buy something like this

from friends experience, most economical way is to buy a honda civic 1.6 and lpg it.. never seen one fail..

If I were going down that road it would be a new shape 550i tyvm ::)
The Holden will be more reliable too, not to mention roomier... :y

Yes but you'd have to drive round in a car called a Calais....... :D ;D
I suppose you could stick an Omega badge on it! ::) :y

old days of cheapo diesel and cheapo parts, simple engines are long gone.. nowadays diesels are all turbo, equipped with large number of costly parts which requires some serious skills/equipment to install.. and expensive to buy even second hand.. as we all know cars are made up of consumables a long mileage diesel will cost more in parts+troubles than the economy it may bring..
honestly in UK you may have the chance of finding a well maintaned long mileage diesel but here absolutely no.. my people have the habit of abusing the cars to its last point and sell the car on its last legs >:(

The annoying thing is I have been seriously considering 2. as a working replacement to the Omega :'(
