I have a 2001 'y' reg facelift CD..
My lights are useless. They are the HID type I believe :o
I have polished the lens and this has helped but I'm wondering if the bulbs loose performance with age??????
What is the type of bulb I'm after ?
So ram night breakers seem to give greater brightness.
Please help before I crash and die >:( :(

Do you have a manual level adjuster as part of the headlight switch? If so, you might see an improvement with Night Breakers (I've never sued them so don't know)
If there's no adjuster, then you have HIDs and I bet that the beam is pointing to the floor due to broken adjusters inside the headlamp itself. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90638.0
Drive up to a wall/garage door & check where the beam is pointing to.

Yes, the lamps do lose performance after time. mine would do all the normal on start up, go through the colour change and then dim off. one of mine was yellow like an old sealed beam headlamp while the other was like the old dim/dip system in the 80,s. Worse lights I had ever had. a word of warning with replacements. The cheaper they are, the more problems there will be. My first replacement set would sometimes no strike up in cold weather until they both eventually refused to light at all. The next set I got online from HID direct or something like that. Got a discount so only paid £80 for the pair sent. Never had a problem since

Bog standard projectors on the CD spec not HID.
As you say, Osram Nightbreakers :y

a mate is getting me a pair of standard lamps so i will see if that does the trick before I shell out £150 on nightbreakers :y

Standard/projector lights shouldn't be as good as HIDs ..... as per the other post & above, there's something wrong with your HIDs if the light is poor. I'd suggest fixing what you've got rather than than going backwards with 'standard' lights.

After market hids? What do these consist of Martin? Just a head light unit?

If you do go this route please ensure you fit the required self leveling and washers and don't just become another person driving around blinding people coming the other way :-)

These aftermarket kits are the ones that DfT/VOSA have been getting a bee in their bonnet over, and have made clear that in their minds are NOT suitable for UK use

Well, if that's the case, I do find it odd that somebody, who I distinctly remember posting up on here how annoyed he was that other cars lights where so bright that he found it difficult to see, would then go out and buy illegal Hid lights and fit them to his own car.
I've seen these In action and they are ridiculous, to say the least. Great for the driver, but blinding to everyone else.
