Title: Mixing Semi Synth Oil with Full Fat
Post by: zirk on 14 January 2014, 17:42:39
Not asking because I intend to do it, just that it came up the other day when chatting with some mates, and as usual with mixed answers.

Whats your views or the definitive answer?, personally I dont mix the stuff and mainly use Semi, having said that I wouldn't hesitate to mix if I was out in the sticks and low on oil, but mixing on a regular basis?

Reckon it also must be quiet common senario as most people with half a brain dont know what there putting in there car any way.

I agree it would be a common occurrence, Zirk. Garage on a service put semi-synth in and then when drivers' at the garage they buy the expensive oil cos theres is a bit low.

Realistically I don't think it would do any harm. However I have no knowledge to back that up.

In day to day normal use it doesn't make any difference. I always use fully synthetic when I do an oil change & try not to mix it but when I think about it, I've been mixing oils in engines for the last 30 years without incident. If I was racing or living in Alaska I might be more concerned. There may be some other views... ???
