Title: Maxiscan MS309
Post by: Lazydocker on 15 January 2014, 22:15:09
Quick question guys... I'm looking for a cheap but usable code reader for my vans. Anyone tried a Maxiscan MS309? Any joy with a diesel?

I guess not then ::)

I might just take a punt with one and see what happens :-\

Looked at plugging Arron's 509 into a pug van, but it had dome oddity with the plug socket on the car.

Some sort of green clip that prevented the reader plug fitting. I presumed Peugeot want to sell their own leads.

Ps, why the concern over a diesel variant?

My MS509 communicates with my son's 07 plate Nissan Navara diesel and he's used it successfully to read and clear codes.
Not tried it on any others though.  :-\

Ps, why the concern over a diesel variant?

Because the majority of the vehicles we go out to drain are diesel powered ;)

We get particular issues with Corsa and Astra platform vehicles where the sometimes lock into limp mode until the codes are cleared

I have one. It works on the Corsa, but won't connect with the Omega.

Which Omega, DTi or Elite? My 509 connects with my 3.2 though for some reason (poxy Taiwanese scan tool most likely ;D) the engine has to be running..

I have a 509. Good kit. Read Martin's Rover codes and gives good, intricate live data on my ma's Fusion and on the Omega; although it won't read Omega codes (but I knew that).

Good kit, good price. imo  :y

It was kindly given to me by forum member 'Mantahatch'.

Ignition on, and even with the engine running it won't play ball with the MV6.

Your guess is as good as mine as to why not. :'( :'(

In the UK, All post 2001 petrols and all post 2003 diesels should be EOBD (euro flavour of OBDII). However, EOBD does not completely guarantee stuff will work together.

If its a cheapo chinese copy, even less chance of it working well.

I use the CReader Vi, it's not a super whippy device, but has live data function and has worked on petrol/diesel vehicles. Everything from Corsa's to Bentley's.

Does the Maxiscan count as that? It's not technically a copy (that I'm aware of) but it is Chinese (well, Taiwanese..) ;D

Its often cloned by the chinese...  ...hence the genuine Maxiscans seem to work much more reliably than the egay tat Maxiscans.

But I have 3 Peugeot Partner vans

if you need scanner just for those vans
then I would go for this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-LEXIA-3-PP2000-DIAGNOSTIC-INTERFACE-CAN-BUS-PEUGEOT-CITREON-/251426884925?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item3a8a35cd3d

Not for my vans Serek (although it will get used on similar motors), for my customer vehicles on the odd occasion it is required. Could be anything from a Smart car to a Sprinter Van. Hence the reason I'm looking for a universal device. ;)

I don't really want to spend too much as in over 1300 drains it would only have come in handy 4 times ;)

Wifi ELM adaptor? then a variety of iphone apps to show and clear codes.
May not be quite the image you are after though.

I have one and it works fine.
Something like : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELM327-WiFi-WLAN-CANBUS-OBD-OBD2-Interface-Car-Diagnostic-Scanner-iPhone-iPad-UK-/181183744067?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2a2f648843
at about £15

apps : iodb2 ,rev lite, odb car doctor etc

Just bought one of these readers. Does it work on a 2.6? Not clear from the posts if anyone has tried one.

Works on mine and Aaron's 3.2's. So should be fine on the 2.6. It is obd2 compatible after all, as is the 309.

Works well for auto box and engine code reading. Live data for fuel trims and O2 sensors etc.
Seem to remember a data logging mode but never used it.

Not sure how to distinguish genuine from copy though. :-\ to the point I wondered if genuine was also made in China...?  :-\

Autel are Taiwanese, so almost certainly..

Although the unit says Autel Maxiscan MS309, a small QC sticker says "Konnwei". A bit of Googling brings up an identical looking unit badged as a Konnwei KW806.

Anyone had any experience of these?

When I plug it in, it does a search and the display reads "KWP2000 Protocol".

When I try to read the codes the display reads "ISO9141-2" and then comes up "Linking Error".

Yep.....mine has exactly the same 'piss off and stop bothering me' message. As stated, it won't play nicely with my 2.6 ....(MS509)

On the Autel MS509, if you go in to the settings you can display the serial number of the code reader. If it shows a number it is probably genuine, but if it displays for example 1234/'-\#-', it is likely to be a copy.  :y
The downside being that you won't know this until you've purchased it.  ::)

My MS509 works on my 3.2, the Navara and my daughters Peugeot.  :y
