Title: Dangleberries!! Part 2
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 21 January 2014, 22:17:30
So my nice shiny reconditioned alternator turned up today!  :) but what a complete PITFA changing it is!!  ::)  :(

I thought the bottom bolt was awkward enough but the top bolt is a nightmare!!!  :o The B-Bolt is a walk in the park in comparison!!  :-\

After removing the air intake assembly, I managed to snap off one of the mounting bolts on the cruise control box, which is a disaster as the LPG vapouriser bracket was mounted on that as well, so I guess I'll have to drill through the wheel arch for a new bolt.  :-\

I finally removed the old alternator and while connecting the new one I think I over tightened the positive lead (chunky one) as there was a slight cracking noise.....  :-\  The problem was that I couldn't get a spanner on it as the connection is slightly recessed so I used a socket and I'm ham fisted!  :-[  I hope to hell I haven't buggered it as I can't face going through it all again!!  :'(

I gave up this evening when I was going to drill a hole through the wheelarch for the cruise bolt and my drill died on me!  >:(

Not my day!!!  ::)

When I'm as rich as Opti the first thing I'm going to do is go out and buy a Daewoo!!!  ::)  ;D ;D

Sorry to hear about your problems ST  :'(

What have and haven't you removed to get to it? I took bagpipes out, aux belt off, sai shite out the way, aux tensioner off. . . And then there was bags of room to get to the bolts.

I have no idea if the guide says to do it that way..  . . . However I'm now a veteran of removing everything up front following the cam belt implosion  ::)

11mm on the back and undo from the front. Knock bolt through. Then undo connections.

Just make sure you don't pinch knock wire sensor after alternator is replaced  :y
