Title: Are diesel Omegas inferior to petrol Omegas?
Post by: terry paget on 22 January 2014, 16:18:13
I spotted this used diesel 2.2 on e-bay in Devon. Are diesels less reliable than petrol cars? How many mpg should this car give on motorway work?

Get a good one and they're brilliant but when they go wrong they can be a real pita. There's not a lot of info on repairing them unfortunately

THe 2.2DTi suffers from poorly maintained intakes causing all sorts of ECU limps. Also, the diesel pump occasionally fails. New pumps are uneconomical, is repairable (by specialists), but fiddly getting at it.

2.5TD suffers overheating, usually due to people ignoring service interval (BMW originally stated 4500 miles!), and shit autoboxes.

Hello, ive got a 2.2 dti and not long got a 2.6 v6 not really driven the 2.6 as of yet but my 2.2 dti manual drives lovely its not the quickest in the world but around town it averages around 37 driven nicely or heavy footed can get it down to 33 mpg and on a motorway trip ive had it upto 46mpg and thats with heater on and drivers heater seat and radio but ive always had 2.0l or 2.2 petrol omega and I think they average roughly the same as the 2.6 v6 so I rather pay more in fuel for the better drive  :y

Was looking at this the other day (but I wonder what the reserve price is).
