Title: Had a very soft tyre at lunch time............
Post by: Vamps on 22 January 2014, 22:06:23
1st thought was to kick myself as my box of bits for the car, includes a small compressor, is sitting in the garage after a visit to the tip after Christmas...... ::) ::) :P :-X

Made it to a local Tesco garage where it cost me 50 new pence, I expected to have to pay about 20 pence........ ::) ::) :( :-X

Found a tyre place and got it sorted, leaking rim, cleaned and replaced and all seems well, had the other one done, same thing in October, apparently a problem on a 4X4........ ::) ::)

... apparently a problem on a 4X4........ ::) ::)

how is a '4x4' rim any different from any other rim? (assuming both are ally)  ???

Just had a local tyre place look at a 'slow puncture' on the Smart ..... leaking on the seat due to corrosion. (it might be a good excuse to get them all refurb'd  ;))

Yes, that was the suggestion, tyre lad went into all the in's and outs but was a good lad, he wasn't trying to sell me anything. Tyres are 2 and half years old close on 30k miles but lots of tread left. If I decide to keep it may look at a wheel tyre combination to replace all........ :-\ :-\ :-\

Sounds more likely that the level of competency at your local places is poor  :-\.  Unless your car is known to have cheese wheels.

Had the other front wheel done last year, also the rim cleaned and tyre refitted and all is well..... :y :y The suggestion was I have the wheels refurbished; tyres have been on for about 2 and half years and almost 30k miles........ :D :D :y

I had the same problem on the blue elite. Had the tyres taken off, rims cleaned up with a die grinder then tyres refitted with liberal use of sealing compound cured it. All done on a Saturday when TG's boss isn't in the garage.

It's an AEC Militant MkV mate ... though not mine! ::)

Here's (was at the time, anyway) mine:

Also an AEC, but a 'Reliance 505' that took me nearly six years graft to restore it :o

Both were entries at the West Somerset Railway's annual Steam Fayre held at Bishops Lydeard, Taunton.
Summer 1996 (from memory) ;)
