As above really.
Not interested in changing the ride, I just want to replace the broken rear spring on my 2003 Elite saloon. It has self levelling suspension & I will be changing them as a pair.
Last time I looked genuine springs were astonishingly expensive. Is there a current 'best buy' for replacements?
-
Only other "known" supplier of self levelling rear springs is kyb. Presume they still supply? (But if you find another supplier do shout. :) )
However some members have reported they rust very quickly. Which I guess might lead to early breakages.
Trade club helps considerably with gm springs, last I looked anyway.
-
On cost grounds, I guess you know rear self levelling shocks will work with ANY springs...?
-
Thanks Chris
Trying to find springs in the tradeclub site but none listed :-\
-
Eurocarparts list Sachs, Anschler and BOGE springs for a 2.6 but can't be bothered to say whether for saloon/estate/self levelling ::)
Allgerman don't list any springs for the Omega. If I knew what make to go for I would give Jason a call & ask him for a quote.

There were times when I thought the rear of the car was sitting a little too high, I don't know if the springs currently fitted are the correct spec, I suspect they may be pattern replacements :-\
I am fairly relaxed about what goes back on but I know that a little bit of homework now will save me paying over the odds or jacking up the rear (or both)

Sorry if this appears twice my computer is messing about. I fitted KYB springs they were a fraction of the cost of GM If you are worried about rusting you could treat them prior to fitting. The ones I fitted looked like they were powder coated so should last I would have thought

If you do a google search under above KYB part number you should find a supplier,as that is what I replaced mine with few years back. From memory cots around £40 per spring. :y
-
£40.00 per spring sounds high I think I paid that for a pair.

I paid £90 a pair delivered, a couple of years ago. Iirc

Found the paper work My Kybs cost £57.00 in 2011 I had them fitted at a garage for £76.00. So £40.00 each could be about right now.

ZF appear to be the parent company for Sachs, BOGE and Lemforder. I have just discovered their parts catalogue
webcat.zf.com (http://webcat.zf.com/index.asp?SPR=4).
They list a BOGE part number for self levelling (25-E49-0) "to be discontinued". A shame because I think they have the tapered ends the original springs would have had.
Right, KYB it is then. Thanks amba :y

When I first got TBE, I fitted Boge SL springs, which I used for about a year without issue (std Elite handling aside).
I would recommend above KYB, which seem to rust quite quickly.

Phoned Jason at www.allgermanparts.co.uk (http://www.allgermanparts.co.uk).
While I was still on the phone Jason called BOGE and confirmed that they have discontinued the self levelling springs (boo :() but they had one pair left (yay :)).
Should be arriving on Thursday :y
-
Getting harder to find my local motor factor don't list them any more even euro car parts don't list them now but can get them
-
Going to fit the BOGE springs I bought from Allgerman (now the snow has mostly melted)
While I was on the phone to Jason, when neither of us expected the BOGE springs to be available, he started to talk about an alternative manufacturer. Before he got as far as telling me the name the answer came back that the last pair of BOGE springs were in stock so I never did hear the name of the alternative......

If rear, self levelling shocks will work with any springs. Any spring will also be firmer though.
-
I don't think the springs I am taking off are the originals. They sometimes seemed to ride too high but were otherwise OK (apart from the last couple of weeks when I noticed a distinct deterioration which I put down to driving 'enthusiastically' but was presumably caused by the broken spring)
New ones have the tapered ends that the old ones lack. Time will tell whether they are what I want or whether I should have bought something firmer...........

Snow has melted, it has stopped hailing and the sun has come out. I wonder how far I get before the next shower ::)
