Title: Catalytic converters
Post by: combatzone on 26 January 2014, 20:22:17
Just a quick question about catalytic converters.
Would the two cat sections on a 2.6 v6 be the same as the two on my 3.0 v6?
My car is a 2001 facelift 3.0 mv6

Thanks

Neil

Think you might need to modify the flange on the manifold :-\

No,

the 2.6 will have pre cat, and cat

the 3.0 just has a main cat,  pipes and lambda sensors..bt can be modified to fit.

Whats you plan?  3.0 cats onto a 2.6?

There are no cats in my 3.0, was thinking on putting 2.6 ones into it. Any idea where I could get two cat sections at reasonable price? Would be a great help, need them for mot.

Thanks

You cut bits off to make them fit the other way, so getting a gas tight seal may be tricky.
There are also 2 Lambda sensors where you only need one, so one would need removing, and the post cat one would need swapping.

Some useful info and pics in here from when mine were swapped (3.0 cats onto a 3.2)

Modifying the 2.6 ones to fit is an option but as I am not the handiest with this sort if thing I think 3.0 ones that bolt in would be handier for me. Why the previous owner removed them I'll never know, does it help performance at all?
