Title: I have a very happy step son.
Post by: Vamps on 05 June 2008, 21:58:19
You may recall that I bought a Scooter through ebay for his birthday today. neighbour and myself put it together this afternoon, no instructions though :( good job we knew what we were doing ish. :)
He had no idea he was getting it and was delighted, no driving licience yet but the forms out now, he had not bothered, despite hints cos he did not expect to get one. ;D ;D ;D
Sounds lovely as he sits in the garage, doors open, giving it a few revs, all 50cc of them. ;D Think he has learned the manual off by heart now. :y

Well done, BUT...

BUY A HELMET

 & LOCK UP THE KEYS.

Young men are easily "dared" to go for 'just a short spin', which potentially means driving without road training, mot, insurance, or protection. Just takes one clown in a BMW to change lanes at the wrong moment, and he's history. Sorry but It Happens.

Am I a dampener on his fun? Poss yes, but I had a motorbike accident a few years ago. I had passed my test, was wearing all the kit, leather flying jacket and helmet, but came off on a corner. I ended up in Hospital, out for the count for 3 days, with a fractured skull and broken collar bone. My Mum was worried sick.

No this could be good a chance to teach the responsibility bit. Today's roads are too crowed and full of idiots to risk a young life.

best of luck

Ken

Believe me, all covered. In the meantime I am waiting for the reg no and tax, I will insure it and we have some access to area's where he can have a go, in a supervised invironment. My brother is a ROSPA and IAM instructor and I have had bikes for over 30 years. :y

Good, you have it covered. My sisters son was "dared" by a friend to borrow his mums triumph GT6 for a short test drive. You can guess the outcome, car written off, he totally screwed up his last year at school, which affected his further training prospects, and instead of a potentially good career, he is working late shift at a shop.

Turning a corner, do you put your hand out before or half way round the corner ?.       ;D ;D ;D

Have fun

Ken
