Ford are now going to put their 1.0 litre 3 cylinder turbo motor into the Mondeo.I know it's won awards and all that, but if I were thinking of buying a Mondeo[which I'm not]I think I'd be a bit fretful as to longevity of such a motor in such a large car.Surely to make any kind of reasonable progress you'd have to be nailing it all the time?As ever I stand to be corrected by the more learned folk on here.

Even in the shitbox also known as Focus, you have to rev the nads off it to make it even move, but nippy enough around town if you rag the tits off it. Desperately shows its poor power delivery on longer runs.

Not keen on this engine at all,yes high power out put for a 1.0,but 3 cylinders and turbo charged, and they are on about fitting it into a mondeo, thats like having a 3.2 omega and fitting a 1.6 lump into it,to me its a bad idea >:(
-
I certainly would not like to have a Mondeo with a 1000cc 3 cylinder engine turbo or no turbo
Engines like that belong in puddle jumpers ;D
-
Guess the fuel economy drops quicker than Jordans kecks if you rag it as well :-\
Does rather defeat the object somewhat ::)
-
Bah, a gm v8 powered lump in a ford is what you want. :o
-
30,000 miles and the engine will be 'donald ducked'.
Performance bikes have been running with 'high powered' small engines for yonks, and they are not known for their longevity. :'( :'(

This is the way petrol engines are going for fuel economy. Smaller displacement and forced induction. Better than a tractor, IMHO. :-\

Yep highly strung and a service life of 50k.

Reminds me of the three cylinder engine in the Corsa, sounds like a good idea, lighter engine etc
But I have seen a fair few gubbed after their owners forgot they had bought a shopping buggy and not a car ;D ;D
Probably ok as a ''wee car for the wife''
I bought an Uno many years ago for swmbo and it was great around town but struggled on long runs etc 4 cylinder 'Fire' engine if memory serves

I'll ask the bloke at work who was stupid enough to buy the 1.0l Focus (actually, ideal engine for him, 2 miles in, 2 miles home, and nowhere in MK is that far). I know he was initially impressed with economy, but this dropped, and he found runs down to Kent took a lot of changes in driving style compared to his previous TDCi Mundano.
-
why not remove engine and put in 2 mouse wheels or 4 if it a sports model ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
A lot of people will fall for it and all the sales talk , they always do :(

That new renault captur has a 900cc in it.
-
'Our' smart is a 3 cylinder turbo'd engine, 700cc with 80bhp, no problems around town, but it needs to driven with revs .... like a motorbike to get anything proper performance out of it. And the thing it desperately needs when you're on the motorway is torque. You almost always need to knock it down a gear when on a long ascent (6 speed automated manual)

My first car, a Mini, was only 848cc......... :D :D :y

Thought this was a service item - no oil and filter change, just replace the engine 8) ;)
