Title: Damaged rim?

Driving on the m1. Felt a vibration through whole car, felt just like a misfire. Drove for maybe 6 miles intending to stop in nearby services and check it out

Before I got there, did a lane change, and, whooaa.. That vibration is a rear flat tyre!!!

I pumped it up to get me off the motorway and it felt like I had an egg for a tyre

Million dollar question - will it be just the tyre shagged, (it clearly is) or shall I not trust the wheel either now? It looks ok, but.... :/

You'll have to put the spare on anyway, no?

Oh I did to get car home

Just concerned if the alloy will be ok with a new tyre or if its likely to be buckled..

is surely  ...... how did you drive for 6 miles on a flat & not know?!?!?  ???  ???  ???

There's no reason that the rim will buckle by driving on a flat tyre, it's just the possibility of grinding the lip of the rim away. If there's no obvious damage to the rim, I'd say you just need a new tyre (and a TPMS  ::) )



The wife of a  a lad at work arrived home one day & said there's something not right with the car .... it's making an odd noise & the handling isn't right. She'd driven on a flat (at the back) to the point that the tyre was virtually none existent and she'd been effectively driving on the rim. The rim was a write off.  :o :o :o

Thanks andy, the tyre stayed intact and the rim looks untouched :y

The steel belt in the tyre worked then  :y :y

If it looks ok it probably is,get the tyre boys to check its still round and true when they balance the new one :y

What He said,  :y a good inspection, should be fine, if any grit marks around the rim just flaten down.  ;)
