Quite a while ago the better half and i were hoping too sell up and move lock stock and barrel over too the Philippines....well thanks too the housing market plummeting its just not feasible.
So Ive now said the missus can go and take the twins (Nearly 17 months old now) with her as there running her ragged and really could do with her family for help and support....booked the tickets today,3 singles and 1 return :'(
Had a real mixed reaction from friends.....some have said its an incredibly understanding thing too do as im putting them first and others have basically said im a complete numpty and shouldn't allow them to go.
Feels kinda odd knowing im only going too see my babies once every four months for a week.....Ive a feeling that flight home is going too feel surreal.
So what ya reckon guys....good or bad idea. :)

it is a one in a life time chance opportunity so i think you should go for it.
I am also emmigrating to new zealand in september (Will be a holden commodore owner) and have told my family yesterday, they were really happy for us.
Only you can decide this but i think you should go for it :y

In one word a good idea if your little ones are hard to handle which i know from having 3 of mine own and on the other hand yes you will miss them very much as they will be miles away from you and i think they will miss you too but they are still young at the moment and your wife will miss you but at least you can talk by phone i say do whats best for you both and be happy, so all i will say is good luck :y
-
i wish i could send my kids abroad b ut missus would never go for it. have been offered a job in dubai working 8 mths a year but missus says no cos the little lad wudnt be able to stay at f*k*n grandma's on a thursday and it wud upset him.

They are not in your shoe's though and should be giving you positive backing. Im sure it will be hard at first, but judging by the way this country is heading it will be well worth it in the long run.

So what are the Phillipines like?
-
I think you ought to go with them. Rent your house out in the UK. What is the worst that can happen? Things don't work out and you have to go back? At least you would still have a house to go back to. A job might be harder to get in a few years time back in the UK if the recession takes off but there would be something even if it is only the dole.......
If you are worried about taking a drop in relative income don't be, so long as you have enough for the basics you will get by. Keep a lump sum in the bank though. I used to spend money like it was going out of fashion in the UK. I manage on a fraction here and feel better for it.
I know quite a few people (retired now ) that could have (should have?) gone to Oz or New Zealand and didn't. They all regret it without exception.

Well actually Varche that was at one point a possibility....however we simply couldnt get enough rent to cover the morgage, unless we rented per room and id not be happy with renting unless it was with an agent.
Bascily was going too stay out there (wife had her place built to her specs and has no morgage) for 4/5 months come back work 5/6 months send home the wages and then do the same all over again as the cost of living is extremely cheap.
Martin depends where you live out there and if you have money......there seems too be two two and a half clases the working class and the well off/rich. :)
Luckily the missus has a house in the province so for her its a huge mountain behind her house coverd in cocunut plams and front is a beach like you would find in the Caribeanen.....white powerdy beaches and cyrastal blue sea.
Transport isnt too bad either...mainly small engine bikes with cars being either pick ups or similar (no omega"s so far...seen a couple of MK2 escorts and a sierra :o).
At least in her area zero crime....just the occasinal argumnet over something trivia and either hot and sunny....very very hot and sunny or very hot and humid.
She seems too think picking a mango and sitting out side eating it is normal for breakfast...or going down too the sea and catching ocyopuss for tomorrows dinner rather than goo too the shop and buying it.... ;D
Hmmm its pretty cool all in all....the capital Manila is just like any other city that has 11 million residents,,very polluted and extremely busy althouth i always get a buzz when im there.
