Title: Group B cars
Post by: Ever Ready on 06 February 2014, 19:12:41
If you could have one of these all expenses looked after by a rich uncle which would it be?

For me it would have to be either the Integrale or RS200. Either of those beasts would make me a very happy bunny

Drove the Inter but missed out on the RS.  You never know what the future holds though ;D

My lottery win for instance (providing it is the high numbers will be a blur of fast cars and even faster women)  ;D ;D

I know I said one  but I started the thread so I am allowed to be greedy ;D ;D ;D

Got to sit in one before I had a licence, on a visit to one of my bro's workplaces. Never driven one :(

When (and I must be positive) I win the lottery I will buy an RS 200 and you can thrash it round a track of your choice ;D

This will be mine one day, if there is a god! I slavered over this very one at the age of 15 and did the same a couple of months ago again. Gone up £30,000 in a year :o

Good call on the Lancia, Delta S4 or 037?

I would hazard a guess at the Delta S4 :y :y

The rally cars of today are a mere shadow of the Group B cars from the eighties. :-\

Lancia Delta S4 every time.

For me, the Audi Quattro ruined rallying forever....s

Got to agree with the S4  but why the Quattro?  too successful?

Walter Rohrl and the Quattro were a joy to watch

They were dull to watch and sounded rubbish.

Until that day cars were skittish and screamed, you could hear them miles away and the drivers fought them.

The Quattro was a step change in design but brought with it a quieter and more balanced setup which simply removed the spectacle.

It could be the same with the super quiet formula 1 this year to.......who knows....

Thinking back, there was nothing better than a Mk2 escort, Manta or the likes screaming away on carbs, the high pitch whistle of the air being dragged throgh the venturi .....brilliant.

Got to be the Lancia. Especially if someone else is maintaining it.  ;D I have a soft spot for the Stratos, though. The S4 just had a boot full of intercooler and intake ducting, as far as I can recall. There was an engine under there somewhere, I'm sure. ;D

There used to be a rallycross circuit at the Coys festival at Silverstone back in the 90's where they showed of the old group B cars. Best part of the event, IMHO.

The Quattro certainly ushered in a new era of rally cars,  I always preferred the rwd cars especially with someone like Roger Clark driving the RS1600 or the Great imo Hannu Mikkola

The Lancia 037 mentioned earlier was one of the last before the four wheel drive took control. The 037 is a beautiful car as well :y
