Title: Boyhood hero....
Post by: cam2502 on 10 February 2014, 19:28:05
I get to meet mine tomorrow....
Kenny Dalglish will be in Glasgow tomorrow afternoon at a sports store in the city centre and I'll be there. Can't believe how excited I feel, like a kid at Christmas!  ;D
He's been my hero since I was 6 years old.

I met my childhood hero nearly every day until I was 18, then every few weeks until he died.

My dad.

Wish I'd had more time with mine. And appreciated it more. C'est la vie...

My dad.

Couldn't have put it better myself  :y

Stayed with my dad at 16 when parents split up, was there until 20, more like brothers, picked up better looking girls than me as well, the bugger.  :-[ ::)

Spent every last day of his last 3 months with him clearing out his house, many stories and secrets to take to my grave.

The sport cars in my avatar are some of the Rochdale marque that he designed and built, as well as caravans, speedboats, owing a sprinkler company and a shipping company. If I do half of what he did i will have achieved

I never really knew my Dad as I should have, we never really got along and he realised after about 35 years that he hadn;t been much of a Dad to me..... He died 2nd January 2006, the day before (New Years Day) all his family got together, me and my family, my sister and her family and my mum all round for a family dinner and to celebrate Christmas 2005, because he was in hospital on Christmas day with another heart attack (his 4th) and we didnt get chance to have Christmas dinner which he always used to look forward to every year.... I do miss him but I wish he was a better father to me than what he was to my sister....

What superb comment :y :y :y

Sadly my Dad died in WW11 in India, and I hadn't seen him since I was 5, so don't remember him much. :(

He certainly was. We had a wee blether, shook his hand and got a signed photo. Well chuffed!  :)

Barry Sheene. Legend
Indeed

I used to love watching / reading about him, against Mick Grant, Kenny Roberts etc

Sheene was the Bionic man after Daytona and showed real grit racing again at Cadwell after less than two months  :y :y :y

Another guy who was part Meccano was Russ Collins. I remember him crashing that three engine monster Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe

Very brave or a death wish? who knows ;D ;D ;D ;D
