Post by: Cookie Monster on 11 February 2014, 10:18:21
Help pls guys
2.5 v6 cd auto
Went to start her last evening and she started but running very rough as if not firing on all cylinders !
Thought it might be due to damp or fuel so put new fuel in but still not better.
Left it overnight as it was p..ing down , went out this morning and still same, I also noticed that a smell of oil burning or similar was coming from exhaust .
Help pls ... Is it bad ?
Thanks
Adam

Hi guys
Just got around to doing a paper clip test for my misfiring problem and I'm getting
135 which it says is Telltale ( check light ) voltage low .
Please can someone tell me what that means and what needs doing .
It seems I was wrong about burning oil by the way.
Please pick your brains folks
Cheers
Adam

Still worth pulling your plug leads off and looking for oil. If the cam cover gaskets have failed that is where it pools. Cam cover gaskets fail due to lack of manual breather cleaning. The tubes get gunked up over the years . There is a how to in maintenance guides on cleaning and on replacing cam cover gaskets with genuine gaskets.

You need to get the facts on the table so you can eliminate stuff and programme in routine maintenance.

A simple thing to do is look under the bonnet in the dark, with the engine misfiring and see if any plug leads are arcing. Make sure clothing doesn't drop into any moving parts while you do that.
