Title: I am all in favour of helping those who need support...
Post by: Marks DTM Calib on 13 February 2014, 13:57:27
.....but I do sometimes wonder if the solution to the problem might be a little bit over the top.

So imagine this, you live in a council house in Glasgow and if thats not bad enough, you also have a disabled daughter. The access to your property is up a short flight of stairs and so you request installation of a ramp to make it easier.

All fair and good as this is the current situation.

So the council look into it and £40K later you have this:

A ten level ramp.....which the local kids are making 'full use of'  ;D ;D

Perhaps a move to another council property, one without steps, could have been considered. :-\ :-\ :-\

.....'tis' amusing though. ::) ;D

I assume it was all done with appropriate planning permission.

If someone wanted to do that with a non council owned property, I very much doubt that it would get planning approval

It's all to do with the disabled discrimination act and it needs to be compliant  ::)

Indeed, you now need to have resting points over a certain length of straight, ironically it is the resting points that push up the overall length.

As said above, why not just rehouse the folk, planning permission is no different for the council, they face the same strict procedures as an individual applicant........Yeah right  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

It would have probably been cheaper to dig the garden out and put a wheelchair lift in, definitely would have been less of an eyesore  ::)

And the contractors havent even finished the walls off properly  ::)
