Title: dash lights
Post by: peter the butcher on 17 February 2014, 20:00:45
been a bit of a "mechanical numpty  :(" can anyone advise me on how to replace a bulb. I have just noticed that the left side one has gone, so cannot see the lower part of the rev counter or the temp gauge, when its dark and the lights are on.

Give the perspex clocks cover a thump or two first Peter, it might just be a loose bulb holder! :y

I'd replace all of them while you are there, I had one go few months back. Replaced that one, refitted, couple of days later other side went ::)

Often due to age, others fail on dash removal.

There are 3 of them, type 297 2.2 watt wedge base / capless. Available from Halfords :-

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_165538_productId_225478_langId_-1?istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istItemId=lirwii&istBid=tzwt&_$$ja=cgid:8475776884|tsid:35522|cid:166296844|lid:44544809208|nw:search|crid:33910835764|dvc:c|adp:1o1|bku:1&gclid=CLnU3Yil1LwCFUjpwgodYjUAjA

They are identical in appearance to the 501 5 watt type, normally used for sidelights or reg plate lights, but the 501 type are too powerful, and will glare and get too hot, damaging the instrument cluster.
