Hi guys,
After cursing and moving various wires and the Alternator I managed to get to my defective knock sensor and refitted as instructed by various members, which was great
after doing some other things on my to do list today I took it to the mot station for the dreaded yearly tick list :-X :-X
Good thing is it passed few advisorys steering idler and slight oil leak and vaious other crap
GOOD NEWS SHE PASSED!!!!
BUT>>>>>>>>>>>
I have had engine management Spanner come back on on the drive home so I turned around and took it back to my workshop to plug on diagnostics
its saying Knock Sensor Bank 1 Circuit 1 PLEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEE tell me its not the f#cking sensor I spent ages trying to get to, does this mean Steve @ Omega Spares sold me a dodgy??

Reading your post a couple of things are apparent...
1. You refitted the suspect sensor rather than replacing it with a known working one.
2. If there is a problem with the new one, get in touch with Steve and talk to him before publicly bad mouthing him :-X
That said, have you considered that either the wiring has been routed wrongly, or horror of horrors, that there's another problem causing the knock sensor to activate, thus putting the light on :o
I know that's a bit left field and all...
-
Any other codes, as the knock sensor one would have been stored from the previous knock sensor. Also, the diags machine should have told you if this code was still valid, or historic.
-
Sam, I cant help you with your car problem, but I can assure you that Steve WOULDN'T rip you off. Give the chap a call and I can bet my bottom dollar that he will want to help you out of the pickle you find yourself in.

The engine sounds fine no knocks or bangs slight blow from the near side exhaust manifold gasket but nothing engine related I'm not bad mouthing anyone but I'm annoyed that I've got to do the same job twice because it doesn't work

I've cleared the code several times after fitting the replacement sensor to which the light comes back the car seems hesitant with the light off and as soon as the light is on its almost like its accepting the fault and restoring some level of power

Good to know but I've tried contacting him several times over the last couple of days to no avail but I'll wait a few more days as I understand people are busy :y

Thats always the risk with 2nd hand sensors. That breaker is a breaker, probably unable to test that sort of part.
However, as that sensor is reliable, the chances of 2 failing :-\. I'd be initially checking the wiring, if that checks OK, anything that could be making the sensor pick up a (false) knock.
-
I'd also add, although I've not used that breaker myself, I've had nothing but good reports.

Good to know :y does the knock sensor have to be bolted in to its housing or can it just be plugged in to remove the light

It needs to detect a knock.
Is the alternator fitted correctly, any sign of noisey bearings on the alternator?
I assume the knock sensor wire is routed ok and not trapped and damaged by anything?

So you can't just earth it out?

How tight has it got to be in its hole tight or nipped up

It's in Haynes... 4A.2. I assume you have one but are unable to turn the pages.[/colour]
Also it would be fair to say that if you've over tightened it, then that's your doing, and not a faulty part :-X
-
Wool hold back on the insults please! A tad uncalled for being new to the petrol lumps how the hell am I suppose to know!
Regarding your implication of me not be able to turn the pages I may be unwise when it comes to v6 lumps but I have nothing but respect for other people knowledge when it comes to questions.
And no for your smart arse comment I don't own a Haynes manual for it! only the DTi one I had
Good to know I'm well respected on here sorry I asked!

In that case I apologise. It seems to be the week for stupid questions. The answer to yours is 20nm :y
-
Yes 20nm, check the maintenance guide area as there is a list of torque settings in there :y
