No lights on dashboard, car cranks over ok and fires for 1 second or so and then stops.
Not Omega, but the VW forums don't seem to have any thoughts so thought I would try here. If its not allowed then please delete :-)
Many thanks

Fuel lift pump...?
-
Good call, I will have a check. Slightly puzzled as to why non of the normal dash lights come on when switching ignition on though.

Bit strange that you get no dash lights, although you can crank the engine over you may not be energising certain units that need to have power eg fuel pump as stated

Gone though all fuses and relays tonight.
It does just seem there is no power to the Instrument Cluster as is seems totally dead. I believe on this car the immobiliser is part of the cluster so I guess that could explain the failure to run.
No codes stored.
Giving up for tonight!

Thank you TB :-)

You could do with vagcom or similar being plugged and a global scan carried out, that should give you some idea as to what bits aren't working

I just tried downloading the free version, but it does not seem to recognise my Gendan EOBD interface unfortunately.
Maybe time to find someone who can :-)

Immobiliser problem here.
Does the key fob work ok

Depends where you are, but if stuck then "unit 20 vw audi specialist" maybe worth a go. Based in Neston on the Wirral in Cheshire. Everybody I know with VW's goes there, and has some nice RS6's and S8's :D. Spookily I have a VW Touran too! But not a patch on my Omega V6 :y which i seek comfort from the great and the good on this tremendous forum :y.
Good luck.

Engine number and mileage?
At a guess some of the engines have a shut off flap in the air intake manifold which fails to open due to carbon build up. push the flap arm to confirm. Gives the start for a second symptom.

Good call, they do indeed have that flap go faulty but doesn't explain lack of dash lights

Faulty instrument cluster :'(,linked to immobiliser, try a battery disconnect or take the cluster out and check for dampness/leave it near a radiator a while and try it again.

Does that include the 'big' fuses near the battery??
I had similar on a vectra, wouldnt start and no dash lights......found a 30/40/50/60 amp (cannot remember which) fuse blown near the battery .... replaced it and away it went ....
-
Transits are good at that if you go straight from key in to crank rather than letting the ignition switch on step by step ::)
-
Thank you all for the advise........the following morning is worked perfectly!
Clearly need to know what happened to have confidence in the future. Lots of codes logged when did get to read, I suspect a result of pulling all the fuses. (included those by the battery).
If I get any solution, will update here.

Ben's post reinstated, I think it was erroneously marked as spam before.
I think the OP still gets on here occasionally :)

Hi Ben, kind of - took the cluster out and in a few times and it started and has done since this post. However the cluster lights and sounds don't work. Hey ho it passed several MOTs!
