Title: Rear blind
Post by: Andy B on 22 February 2014, 15:20:18
While I was giving my Omega a clean I wanted to clean the rear window, but the blind seems to like being a blind & is staying put. I've had the blind out once .... ages back .....
Is there an easy way to get to the motor to help it? I'm guessing not .... but thought I'd ask anyway.

This is what happens when you leave a car on the drive without using it for months.  :(

On the centre consol there is a button. I find that helps. ;)

Short answer: No

Longer answer: I think it is attached to the underside of the fibre shelf. When I took mine out I had to remove the rear seats and headrests and the trim down the C posts. To get the trim out I had to remove the seat belts and the passenger grab handles.

There wasn't really anything I could do with the motor, the most beneficial act was squirting PTFE lube into the runners.

Thanks Andy. You've confirmed what I thought/remembered.  :(
The hardest thing when I removed it before was the C pillar trims were glued to the pillar with a little excess window glue. I can hear a relay click when I press the button .... but that's it. Wouldn't even go when I tried the 'encourage' the arms as SWMBO press the button/switch. Oh well! There's always tomorrow! At least I'll be dry inside the car.  ;)

Removed mine some months ago and it is a full strip down to get at the motor..as said..headrest/seats/pillar trims etc etc so no simple way

Found mine got a "little confused" and was quite in sync..one side went up quicker that the other.

Gave everything a good spray with silicone spray and normal service ressumed.

If not working at all might be worth unplugging the loom connection by the n/s top shock fitting and replugging just incase it isnt making a good connection

You can hear a faint click as you press the switch & another click a few seconds later as it gives up.

I'll strip it tomorrow & have a look. As said, it's due to lack of use.  :(

It will be the regulator I had the same thing on mine it did work eventually after I gave the pacel shelf a sharp tap  ::) :-X I got so peed off with it though and took it out and changed it. you can leave the c post trims in as it is a fiddly job but just able to eek the shelf out.  :y

Mine has done that from say 3 times in 12 + years. I just left it and some time later just held down blind button for a long time and it kicked in.

Omega gremlin.

I'll try that when I collect SWMBO from the boozer later.  :y :y

BTW if any of the mountings have come adrift you can glue them back with plastic padding chemical metal.  :y

Mine stopped working once and I accidently gave the amp area in the boot a hard knock with some wood I was putting in and it started working again.

Sounds like I should be thumping the parcel shelf while making the switch instead of gently easing the blind's arms  ;D ;D

With the help of someone do both - if its not working at present you almost have nothing to lose. With it raised you could lube it up and "test" once a week to keep it ticking over

..... and "test" once a week to keep it ticking over

that's the root cause ...... the car has rarely turned a wheel all year.  :(

As others have said, it needs to come out.

Head restraints and guides out, both seat bolsters out (which means the seat bench out), can get away with C/D pillar trims staying in situ, remove the centre armrest latch/screw. 3 white push-to-fit latches at rear of parcel shelf, just under rear window.

Its quite easy to break the parcel shelf.

Once out, if it works, use a plastic curtain rail lube to fully lube up the runners, and refit - try not to allow any distortion on refit.

Once working, use it or lose it!

Removed parcel shelf/blind ....... it's a lot more fun when the blind is stuck up rather than down!  ;D ;D ;D

Wound the blind down by hand via the short extension on the motor spindle. Re-fitted & Hey Presto ..... it works :y  :y  :y . If only I could have got to it in situ.  :-\

Proper job! I really should go and test mine...

And that's part of the reason. Mine normally stays up (ooer!) It's a shame they didn't come with 'limo tints'  ::)

sounds like these blinds give you lots of problems leading to the excessive use of lube and problems with things staying up  :D
