Title: Technology and progress
Post by: pscocoa on 22 February 2014, 19:26:51
I think STEMO posted recently about our dependency on techie stuff and getting up tight when things went a bit awry.

But today connecting my mother confined to bed  in Manchester with her new great grandchild in Sandhurst via FaceTime is absolutely irreplaceable. So glad we can do this live with decent picture.

I certainly wouldn't want to be without Skype where I use it to talk and see my wife and young daughter for about an hour every day. We have good days and bad days with the connection where they are the last house in the village and the furthest from the 3G mobile mast so only get about 2 bars signal strength. I recently bought a new USB data modem and 13db gain aerial to try when I'm next over there.

Last year Wimax reception, which the local school use, arrived in the village and I'm keen to see if they can get a connection as this gives an always on solution and up to 4Mbps.
