Hi guys,
Hopefully this is straight forward:
In the following pic....
(http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee402/webbybear1/gearratios_zpsc4bbcb3e.png) (http://s1226.photobucket.com/user/webbybear1/media/gearratios_zpsc4bbcb3e.png.html)
...we can see that reverse gear has the same everything almost as first gear (which produces the most torque)..... so why is the ratio like -2:1 thus giving the impression the torque is not existant in reverse?
help lol :-[
Cheers :)

At a guess, its because the torque is in the "opposite" direction .. positive torque gives a forwards motion, negative torque gives a rearwards (reverse) motion ??

Gearbox output torque in reverse is the reverse of the input torque hence it creates a negative torque with respect to the input

Fair enough, Nige. I just assumed the torque would be calculated irrespective of direction. :)

Thanks Mark. is there then a torque measurement not in comparison of the input shaft? (if that makes sense)
