Y188NFA 2.2 petrol manual saloon
My son Ben forgot his towel so called here for a shower. On Departure his car would not start, so he took spare car and left me to repair it. It seemed to start for me, he tried it again and it failed to start again, so I set about repairing it.
I fitted a £30 cheap crank, which made it worse. I fitted a Vx £100 sensor which seemed to cure it. I handed it back to Ben. He said it still did not start.
Could it be his key, I wondered? I had used the spare key. Keys do not fail, do they? I opened up his key, found no immobiliser transponder. Strange. I asked Ben if he had ever had the key apart. He said occasionally when he jerked the key out of the lock (it was on a large bunch of keys) it came apart, but it had been easy to click back together again. Oh.
No-one steals Omegas, do they? I think I will tape the immobiliser transponder to the lock barrel. Is there any reason why I should not?

It will be fine as long as you dont tell everyone.
Or as a temporary fix of course. :-X

You mean publically, out loud on an internet forum with the reg, description of the car and a rough idea of where it lives... what could possibly go wrong ::)
Don't be daft Terry, a drop of superglue holds it securely in place in the key fob :y

Glue the transponder chip into its place in the keyfob! Seemples ;) :y

Might as well post up the V5 reference No., Vehicle colour and Vehicle Pass Code, Job done then. ;)

You might be right Chris, but even so, new chips are easy enough to obtain, and easy enough to programme...

Yes, situation is 2 keys but one transponder. I do not have the car pass. Car still has door locks and a steering lock, so is not that insecure. It only cost me £410 two years ago, so is not that precious. I regard immobilisers rather like locking wheel nuts, more trouble than they are worth.
It was three weeks ago today that Ben showered here and complained that car would not start. He said the key has come apart before so the transponder could be anywhere. Not true, I observed. If it got here it must have had the transponder. It fell out here, on my drive. A tiny black transponder, on my black tarmacadam drive, should be easy to find, unless passing traffic has crushed it or moved it. In one minute on my hands and knees. I found it!
Do I glue it into the blade end of the key or the key ring end?

It goes in the blade end :y open it up and you'll see a notch inside one corner...
The ebay one I linked to will show it clearly in situ :y
