One of my friends has got a younger blonde girlfriend that's what you might call a bit "dizzy". Anyway, she decided she wanted to go to Watford (Herts) on a shopping trip and having no sense of direction printed herself of directions from the AA. Now Watford is only about 45 minutes from Hoddedon. A few hours later she phones my mate and says she's lost. Asking where she was she said she wasn't sure but said she was near Rugby!! Apparently there's a small village called Watford near Rugby. Laughing his head off, my mate told her she had selected the wrong Watford on the route planner and she needed to get back on the M1 and head back south. Anyway, she took a wrong turn and ended up heading north. She then phones my mate again to say she was still lost. On asking her where she was this time, she replied Alton Towers!! ;D ;D ;D
She eventually got home having spent 10 hours on the road!! ;D ;D ;D
BTW, no offence if there are any blonde ladies on the forum but you gotta laugh. ;D

No it goes back much further than that to roman days.....its on the Watling Street and was reffered to as the gap because its actually a natural cutting through the Northampton uplands through which the roman road (A5), followed by the canal, then the railway and finally the M1 were built.
There you go, my contribution to todays pointless trivia

a blonde girl(sorry debs)who worked in the transport office where i worked, one day asked the question "which way round does the m25 go?" ;D ;D.....10 years later she still hadnt lived it down.
-
Yup, Watford Gap so called as its a low area (Gap) between higher areas of land, near a small place called Watford that was on Watling Street (old Roman road from London to North Wales). Canal and railway also came through later as neither of those deal too well with hills.
As to whoever suggested satnav - like the aa route planner, only as good as the muppet pressing the buttons :-X

When I lived in Manchester I was on a job in Caldicote. On the way back you need to join the M4, drive west down 1 or 2 junctions then turn North on the M5 or something like that.
It was late and I was tired...
I forgot to turn off the M4. I just drove along listening to the radio; the next thing I realised was that I was looking at signs for Heathrow airport!
I was a bit late home that night.

No, not a thing..........by the time she got back it was too late. All she got was a big petrol bill and a huge ribbing from her boyfriend and mates. ;D ;D

Shortly after the M25 opened, my Aunt used it for a relatively simple journey. Unfortunately, she couldn't understand the signage, and couldn't find the right exit. She claims she went round 3 times before she managed to get off in the right place. 20-odd years later, she's still driving round London (at 91) but has never been on the M25 again. :)

I drove across South London on Saturday night and it nearly did me in - at 37! ;D

I am blonde, and I just follow my bonnet!! It's never let me down yet travelling backwards and forwards across the country. I don't need sat nav's as so many seem to nowadays, just a glance at a good road map and an address does the job! ;)
-
You can't go giving her a sat nav she won'y be able to work it let alone follow it. If she chooses the wrong watford using the AA route planner what chance has she got finding it on a sat nav. I am supprised she got home as well!!!! ;D ;D ;D
