Title: Leaking over flow
Post by: chrisgixer on 21 March 2014, 11:55:19
Loft header tank over flow is dripping again. 11 years we've been here and its the 4th time the float valve has allowed an over flow. Its on its second new washer since replacement. Rubbish.

Had the same in the last house.  Rather than spend money on a decent unit they would always buy the cheapest/fix and thus spend several times their saving in man-hours and call-out costs.

I didn't care, I wasn't the owner and because they can only give you a time bracket of morning or afternoon it was a good excuse to work from home ::)

Last year my overflow pipe in the loft froze after a similar leak and then the main tank overflowed - into my son's bedroom!
I replaced both the Portsmouth valves in the tanks with Fluidmaster units and they are much quieter and fill more quickly.

What do expect using a pattern washer  :D :D
Just as quick to replace ballvalve,if it is a brass type ballvalve just turn water off and undo the large brass nut,no need to touch where the tap connector is :y
