Yeah the Go Pro's are brilliant, many use them for Snowboarding/Skiing and on motorbikes. All around brilliant little things, the expensive ones often used for TV production work

The first one is very similar to what I have, a mini 0801. This is small, discreet and records in decent high quality. Mine is stuck behind the rearview mirror, and is hardwired into an ignition switched live for the sunroof using a 12v to USB adaptor. This means it's fit and forget, with no loose wires anywhere in the car. A 16gb Micro-SD card left from an old mobile phone records about 6hours and then overwrites what's already there, but you're only likely to be interested in the last 10minutes. Once you've stopped playing with it that is.
I read somewhere that it's basically the same camera unit as an early Go-pro, but without all the extra features; there's no separate focus, you simply aim it out the screen using the display on the back, and stick it on. A free download called Registratorviewer  links the 5minutes files into one long film for each session, and simultaneously displays the video with the GPS data using Google Maps. All in all, I'm quite impressed with it

I`ve heard good things about the 0801. I`m running 2 mobius camera`s, front & rear. I just have them powered by the 12V outlets. The rear camera keeps running for a bit longer of course because of the timer wotsit.

Im thinking of getting one of the type that clips over your rear view mirror.......another driver showed me the one he had.......its records whats going on inside the car, with sound and  also records whats going on in front of the car. It doubles up as a rear view mirror as well.....and you can have either camera displaying what its recording....or no pics but it still records....

I thought it might be a bit of a 'no no' as far as council were concerned (ie recording whats going on inside of the car, if your just carrying kids) but apparently as long as i get it registered with the council and they check the install (check im displaying CCTV recording stickers/etc) they approve them.

According to council i need to get it approved by them......so that if they get a complaint about being recorded....they can say.....'we've approved the install in that cab.....it was displaying CCTV recording stickers....you chose to get in' end of  :y

According the council guy i spoke to.....he reckoned if he could, he would make cameras/sound recording compulsive inside cabs.....as he had 4 cases that have been dragging on for months, about who said what/etc.....if he had sound of the conversations he reckoned the cases would be sorted in 24hours.

I've had several experiences with dash cams, and perhaps I've just had a bad run, but I've had several fail on me.

The one I have currently is from China 2 months ago, so far so good.

There's some benefit to buying locally. I've found that the mounts for different cameras can make a huge difference in terms of how easily they mount in a specific vehicle. At least if you buy locally, you've got the option of exchanging it for a different one, if you wanted to try a couple out.
