Title: Detecting dealer BS
Post by: SMD on 28 March 2014, 11:18:56
Just returned from a 10 mile round trip to my nearest VX dealer to buy some clips for the fuel filter (they turned out to be very expensive clips)

I asked the gentleman behind the counter if they participated in Trade Club.  In replied in the affirmative but added this was only open to those using their 'masterfit' service i.e you will get shafted but we'll make it easier by providing some lube.

Can someone shed some light on how Trade Club works and if dealers have to accept it?

Thanks

They sometimes dont 'do' Trade Club even if they say they do...

It all depends on what you're buying... if its something that might cost less than £10 then they probably will come up with some excuse for not giving discount...

My local Vx stealers does Trade Club but only on certain items.... mainly common service items.... with or without a masterfit membership...

vauxhall have recently reorganised there trade club setup.they have reduced the number of dealerships that you can use your trade club card and it has nothing to do with being a "masterfit outlet".my local dealer is masterfit and used to be trade club as well but now isn't.

Bs indeed. But you do have to prove your a tc member. Either showing the autobahn stormers or Vauxhall trade club card. But once they know you as a tc member they usually just ask "what company is that with?" so they can log the parts sold under that name.

So to get Trade Club discount you need to be a member or part of a recognised company ie ABS?

But what if the dealer doesn't recognise ABS? Once a dealer in Woolwich, SE London got really 'arsey' (as they say round these parts) when I told him I was with ABS

If you email the trade club bofins they will send you  the log in.

Feel free to add any feedback from encounters with dealers.

Ps, ABS ia a car club. Accepted by trade club.

If the dealer has a problem with that I'd suggest he takes it up with trade club. Not paying customers.

I believe the letter you get when you join ABS gives you the name and number of the person you need to call if a garage decides they don't want to play ball.. probably worth doing if they're a TC dealer and not honouring a TC membership.
