Any suggestions on where to buy a new radiator for a 2.6 Auto facelift I assume main dealer is very expensive.

Got mine from them for a V6, good quality been on a couple of years no issues.
-
Just used car cooling and got there in the end.
It is a small concern and I would call the man to discuss for best result :-)

Hello Steve Have you posted in the right section I do not understand your reply.

How difficult a job is fitting a new radiator on an automatic 2.6.with of course air con Can you give me an idea of time scale. I assume to put leak seal in the system is a no no.
-
No No to "snake oil quick fix" stuff. >:( >:( >:(
Rad out is quite straight forward and doesnt involve disturbing A/C rad as it can be unbolted and left inplace as its infront of coolant radiator.
Front bag pipes need removing then autobox feed pipes.Remove top hose and bottom hose, couple of electrical plugs for temp/fans and out it comes.Refit and add nice new coolant so all in a simple morning or afternoons job going steady with tea breaks :y

Is the ATF cooler a separate thing on your 2.6? :-\ It's in the side of the main rad in some cars. ;)

Sorry to intrude, amba, but you said the a/c condenser is in front of the coolant radiator - does this mean that I can take it out easily and replace it?
A couple of years ago, when my a/c stopped working, the man at Kwik=Fit said it would mean a complete dismantling job, bumper off and everything: so I left it!

If your car is a face lift, then Mr Kwikshit was talking from his yaris ::)

Although you will need to remove the radiator I believe!

Yep, '51 Reg 2.6 V6 f/l!
Thanks, Al - because of what Kwik-Fit said, I haven't bothered to see it there's a "How to" on here, but I will now.
Once again, I am SO glad I'm on here; wonderful site, wonderful people......

Facelift or preface lift ..... they're both in the same place meaning the job is the same. :-\

Bumper stays put on all models. To access the condenser aka a/c rad the coolant rad needs to come out first, not difficult though. :y
-
Air con rad can be removed but will require the coolant radiator removing aswell due to the a/c rad being infront.(closer to front of car) than coolant radiator.
Coolant radiator can be removed without taking out a/c radiator.
Hope that makes sense...and yes the shitefit guy was talking rubbish ..as they usually do ;D
-
Can be done with the rad in situ... just. Removal involved folding the old one in half, and refitting involved alot of cursing iirc ::)
-
Thanks a million, gents. Maybe they just wanted to boost their bonus/commission or however they earn extras?
Just to clarify: if I just wanted the rad out (I don't), I can remove it on its own, despite its being behind, yet if I want to remove the ac radiator (I do), I have to remove the coolant rad first despite its being behind?
Um, can you see my confusion?
Ron.
-
The front edge of the slam panel is over the aircon condenser, whereas the rad simply(ish) lifts out as there's nothing above it :y

Correct!
No ..... can't see the confusion ::) ::) ::) When you stick your head under the bonnet and look in front of the fan it's the coolant rad you can see. When that's out of the way, you then have access to the a/c condenser which is right at the front of the car behind the grille. :y
-
Ah, all is crystal, now!
Maybe that's why Mr. Kwik-Fit wanted the front bumper off?
Could be a job for if and when we get a summer.......
Ron.
-
I forgot... the front fans are fitted to the slam panel from the engine side, followed by the air con condenser, then the oil cooler (if fitted) and finally the coolant rad drops in behind :y
So front bumper is totally irrelevant ::)

Bloody hell!
I'll open the windows!!!

It's easy Ron. The fans come out as a unit. ;)

Thanks for the encouragement; I do appreciate all the help on here.
I don't want to say goodbye to the car, James has just done my cambelt and thermostat. My leaking gearbox is a higher priority, though.

Personally, I wouldn't try and change the A/C radiator (condenser) without removing the normal radiator.
A so-called professional air con "specialist" decided to do mine that way ... and managed to break the main rad... one of the plastic pipes ... and then proceeded to "bodge" the repair rather than admit to it. ....
Saga starts at post 4539, ends at 4361 ....
