Hi guys,
Following on from my thread yesterday regarding my mate's nackered calipers i'm just in process of ordering new for him.
There is a 'core charge' (or surcharge) on the parts so i have to return the nackered one for some money back. Do they usually send you a pre-paid bag or box to send them back in? is there any paper work that comes with the new part?
Just wondering as i've never had this charge before (although i've been aware of it on certain items for ages)

Depends on the company - Brakes Int will send a courier to collect, FOC.
Although I, er, still forgot to send back the old caliper :-[ :-[

Only slightly on topic, gents, but how does this work......
A while ago I had my brakes done at Kwik-Fit and they offer a lifetime guarantee, i.e. free replacement forever. What are the economics of this deal: do they honour it regardless or is there "small print", and if it's genuine, what's in it for them?

I owned a Chavalier SRi Mk2 - and had a Kwik-Fit exhaust fitted to get through the MOT early on. I kept the car for about 10 years, and it had a new (free replacemnt) lifetime exhaust every 2-3 years during that time. I think it had 4 in total.
I think the answer to your question is that they use cheap aftermarket parts, and most people don't keep any car for more than about 3 years so the parts usually don't wear out during the time you keep the car.

The companies are Buypartsby and ECP. Hopefully they'll give instructions on how they want to do it with the new part(s) :-\
