Post by: SR-71Blackbird on 05 April 2014, 16:57:23
Hi all,

Quick check, what mpg do TD auto owners get when they are doing 70mph (actual 70mph :P ) constantly over a long run?

Thanks

Before I fitted the V5 chip I think it was about 35. :y

Rightyo, an auto not a manual just to confirm?

It does depend on what diff you have fitted. I have a highj ratio diff and only run about 2150 rpm at 70mph

I picked up a 2.5TD Estate from Manchester back to London at 70 (Cruise) and did hit the magic 50 at one point but averaged around 46 by the time I got back.

Pretty much the same as mine from what computer says ,but its a manual and I have not done a brim check on this one.
But on average shows getting46/47mpg.

Remember, if chipped, the computer readings are optimistic by some margin (15% IME). Brim to brim method is needed for chipped tractors :y

In auto form, mpg is abysmal around town.

How true. Might as well get a V6 and enjoy the associated performance.

'Brim to brim' method on our manual TD's 43-ish mpg whilst motorway (legal max) cruising.
Very happy with that figure! :y
