Post by: pauls on 05 April 2014, 19:00:52
Just trying something and after a bit of advice. When using chrome paint on a plastic trim piece would you use clear laquer over the top as protection from finger prints, weather etc.

What are you using? An aerosol won't need any extra, but will look shit for a while before the finish deteriorates.
If you're using the stuff that is sprayed from a gun over black paint, then it will need clear over the top as the 'chrome' is very delicate. Done well, it can look pretty good, and is as durable as any other properly painted finish.

never tried myself.. but as a precaution, make some test on a piece..

and also dont forget to use adhesion promoter on plastic before anything.. and sand the plastic also..

I have seen that too on some forums..  because cheapo aerosol tins dont have the proper chem mixture ..

original chrome paint is very expensive but wont cause the same result..  or else most american custom garages will go bankrupt ;D

The chrome paint I used was worse than useless. So useless in fact  I returned it for a full refund. :-\ :-\

My 'chrome' finish looked remarkably like  GM star silver.
