As title says.... Ticks over just fine but under acceleration taking it to 2000rpm ish it starts to splutter... The engine management light comes on at that point then goes off when back down to idle speed... Ant ideas?? :-[
-
Any codes?
-
Only started this morning so just parked up in work... Don't know how to check for codes anyway :D. Thinking about it now its not so much a splutter but revs up and down rapidly (as if you where pressing accelerator on and off)

I shall give this a try during my break time thanks... Car doesn't seem to mis fire just race up and down during driving not idling so would the pedal trick still pick something up?
-
Worth a check of the codes anyway :y
Possibly a simple air leak though... easily checked/located with a can of carb cleaner :y
-
How can i check with cannot carb cleaner to check for air leak??
-
Can of... Not cannot... Stupid phone
-
Check icv valve, were it goes into the plenum, also remove icv and give it a good clean with carb cleaner or cellulose thinners. Think there's a guide.
-
Engine running, spay short bursts around any vacuum/breather connections and around the plenum. When the engine note changes, you have found the air leak :y
Don't smother it in the stuff though, as you might lose your eyebrows ::)
Check for codes first though just in case there's any listed...
Biggriffins suggestion is a sound one too as that will also give similar symptoms :y
-
So it could be something as simple as that then? And an air leak would cause the eml to come on too? It is fine on tick over !!
-
It could do :-\ basically the engine is receiving more air than it's providing fuel for, so it burns unevenly and the revs hunt as the ECU tries to compensate for this extra air that it cannot measure :y
If it idles ok, then that does rule out the Idle Control Valve :y
-
I shall do the paper clip test around midday and see if there's a breather pipe come adrift ..
-
Unless I'm doing this simple task wrong its flashing 2. 1. 2 1 ? :-\

Unless I'm doing this simple task wrong its flashing 2. 1. 2 1 ? :-\
21 is the fault code :y decipher list is in the maintenance guide section :y
Cross posting from a mobile is a pita, but go to the index and it's easy enough to find...

Righty ho i shall have a gander now
-
Throttle positioning sensor its telling me??
-
Check the pipes on the throttle body, and all cliips around intake, am still thinking ICV not sealing correct.
-
Gonna have a play with it now... I had the car booked into garage next to work to diagnose and they want £54 plus cat to do it... Rather not go down that avenue of i can help it.
-
Check also that the two small screws that hold tps on arnt loose, and check tps plug too.
-
Tps on tight.. Pulled connection off while running and pushed back on again.. Notable difference in tickover doing that.. Nit taken for a spin as yet
-
Righty ho chaps... Been diagnosed as crankshaft sensor ... Cheers jimbob..... Is it a quick job to do? Where does it live? Do i need plasters for knuckles?
-

Anyone know better?
-
Only info I can add is the genuine sensor fitted to my 2.6 had that part number.
-
I shall see what Vauxhall say tomorrow
-
Sorry, looking at the link above, my info is no bloody help at all. Sorry.
-
Haha :D
-
All sorted now... Re routed out the way too so easy job to do again if it goes.... :y
-
What was the part number for the interest of others please ? :y
-
I shall pop out to the car and get the invoice jang on a moment hehe :D
-
Right then... Taking into account i was given the choice of two from Vauxhall differing in price by £20... The cheaper one is the one i took hoping it was the right one and turned out right. Cost of it was £52.94... Part number on the invoice is.... v0090492061... Also say's along side that number 104GOO sensor, number.
