Having to replace my coilpacks again due to the usual water running through the scuttle and onto them causing them to rust and burst and further still the spark plugs rusting, has anyone done this mod to the scuttle panel to stop the water getting through?
I'm curious where exactly it is I should be applying sealants to correct this problem...

around the wiper spindles.

around the wiper spindles.
And where the two scuttle parts meet and along the front edge where they sit on the flat surface :y

Is there a recommended sealant, please?
Ron.

cheapest black window frame or similar. scuttle will have to come apart for hbv, breathers, coil pack, abs, oil cooler....

Thanks, tidla. As far as I know, I don't have a specific problem, I was just interested in the topic for preventive maintenance, so I don't need to do large amounts of dismantling, do I?

Easy job Ron, once you've got the sealant :y

Wiper spindle above pot 5 and the the metal edge of the scuttle drain, where vx have put a strip of draft excluder foam ::) ...are the usual culprits.
Also check the windscreen seal to scuttle is still firmly clipped onto the bottom edge of the screen.
In fact if you get a hose or watering can and poor water on the screen, you'll see where the water is going. Although you'll need it dry for the sealant to work obviously, and cover the back of the engine to keep the water off if the cp's have been changed.
I used cam cover goo, as that's all I had. But any bathroom sealant or gutter seal will do, ..... preferably black. ;)

I made a cover that bolts to the plenum and covers the packs like a roof, doesn't look great but does the job. :)
