As above really. Having looked into what is available I really don't want to go and buy nine 1 litre bottles at £12 each. I also don't want to fill the box with something that has too many friction modifiers (resulting in clutch slip followed by scrap gearbox).
A bit of history
What we know as the AR25/AR35 is really the 4L30E which was used in all sorts of cars including BMWs, Isuzi and various 4 wheel drive vehicles including the Frontera.
The 4L30E was an evolution of the 3 speed TH180/3L30 which was first built in the late 1960s.
The 3L30 would have used original Dexron which was made using sperm whale oil.
Dexron 2 was a mineral oil launched in 1972. Dexron 3 was launched in 1993. Dexron 4 was launched in 2006 (so after Omega production ended).
From what I can see on the internet the 4L30E doesn't cope well with oils newer than Dexron 3. GM used to licence manufacture of Dexron3 but that ended in 2006.

Fuchs TITAN ATF 4000 Multifunctional Automatic Transmission Fluid - 1 Litre £7.44 inc VAT
Size Price
1 Litre £7.44 (£6.20 ex)
5 Litres £29.99 (£24.99 ex)
So £60 for enough to get the job done once.
I might go with this but I have another lead to follow first - Texaco Texamatic 7045E. If reports from other sources are correct I should be able to get 20 litres for the same price. (so enough to do three box flushes)

Triple QX ATF Dexron III 5 Litre Automatic Transmission Fluid
£18.89
From Car Parts 4 Less on Ebay.
Ron.

If cost is the only concern, in theory, Coma dex3 should meat the same Dexron standard.
But I wouldn't put that shite in my gear box if I was given it.

Btw. If your not aware. The filter, can be cleaned or washed out and re used. It's for larger lumps of debris such as thrust washer , the magnet in the sump is for the smaller particles and silt.
And an instant gasket works on the sumps. ( but i prefer a gasket as it seals better around the bolt holes IMO )

I've used these guys before with no issues. No affiliation. http://www.smithandallan.com/cat/transport-gear-and-transmission

I bought gaskets and filter from JPAT last week. I wasn't going to bother with the filter but with the OOF discount it really wasn't worth faffing around trying to reuse the old one :y

That looks like the kind of supplier I'm looking for :y
Couriers are absolutely useless at finding my house though so first I am going to try the local Texaco station/village shop that is 100 yards away & see if the manager can do a deal on the Texamatic for me :y

I use Shell donax in mine. :)

There's no faffing tbh. There will be bugger all in it. Or if there is, theres a major issue with the box most likely.
But as long your aware, happy days. :y
