Whether the meat we buy in the shops has been humanely killed or kosher or halal, by it being labeled accordingly.

I'm a meat eater and want any animal I eat to have a good quality short life as possible and to be killed as humanely as possible, when it makes the ultimate sacrifice, so I can eat it. It is normal for free range produce to be labeled and priced accordingly, so why shouldn't we also be informed on the method of slaughter?
-
If you think that the alternative method is humane, then think again. Not much in it at all.
The most humane death for an animal is a clean shot through the heart or base of the skull but CJD and pathetic townies who enforce their blinkered opinions in areas they know nothing about have put paid to that.

On Jeremy Whine yesterday... Old news regurgitated by the fail to bolster their anti Islamic/free ukip campaign ::)
Pizza express were serving Halal meat in 2012, as indicated on their website...

Should it be labelled halal?
I'm not sure it matters tbh. The realities are meat for consumption is generally from an animal that's had a miserable life with a miserable end-adding a word to a package will make no odds to the vast majority of carnivores.
Should it be labelled so is British folk know we're eating a "Muslim influenced" product?
Well, if you're that narrow minded I'm not sure I care about your opinion! Also, if that is the arguement, would you be on a restricted diet to eliminate all foreign food stuffs from daily life-or would you like your Indian takeaway prepared with British slaughtered meat?
All a lot of nonsense IMO.
(Also, the "your" in my comments isn't directed at the op-more the your as in public in general)
-
Also, also, halal chicken in costco is cheaper than 'normal' chicken.
That's what matters to most of the general public in today's world

If people new about half the things that happen in the food industry they would cry, and as for how animals are slaughtered, i don't care, iam more concerned how vegetables are picked and transported, because i think they get harmful treatment.

Maybe you haven't seen it but it might have been in your chicken or was that horse takeaway.

Let us not forget that "halal" simply means "permitted", it is not a clever word for some weird interbreeding of species, or for a "different" method of slaughter. Over 90% of abattoirs in UK conform to "halal" standards in the method of slaughter, the only thing then that is required is the reciting of a "prayer" over the carcass.
Does it really make any difference to the meat you eat if someone has stood at a doorway and recited words whilst the slaughter occurs ??? What is the difference between some "prayers" being said and the slaughtermen cracking rude jokes or discussing last nights sexual conquests whilst they work ??
Methinks those that have raised this matter have an agenda of their own, and it is NOTHING to do with meat products or "consumer protection" ... :(

Was a slaughter man for over 10 years and hard as i try could never learn that bloody prayer. ;D ;D

when they kill chickens they electrocute them to stun them and then cut their throat so they bleed to death, this has been done here for years even before Halal was even heard of in this country. :y :y
