Hi guys - driving along at 30, car shuddered then engine immediately died - engine management light came on. Turned over fine but won't fire up. Waited 10 mins, started again, drove about 1/4 mile then same again, died. Got recovered to home. Sitting outside awaiting attention. Battery dead (after failed cranking and hazard lights on for 2 hrs, I guess). Recovery guy plugged in obeedeebee but no codes stored. Crank sensor, maybe?

Yep, crank sensor is first port of call given the symptoms. :y

Sounds like it could be  ...... all the classic symtoms. Though the recovery bloke had a code reader on, nothing from stopping you doing a paperclip test  ;)

Thanks guys - thing is, I've knackered me back moving house at the weekend and can't bend over (in fact, I'm walking like a 90 yr old) - anyone got any idea what a fair price for a mobile mechanic (assuming I can find one round here) to fit the sensor would be, so I don't get ripped off? Cheers

Make sure that who ever fits it, fit a genuine GM sensor ......... don't let them fob you off with the usual .... it's made my the same manufacturer etc etc

Exact same issue I had a few weeks back, crank sensor, replaced and runs perfect. No codes either when checked.

Thanks Alan, but the guy fitting it is supplying a GM one, so I'll go with that. Support the local mobile mechanic and all that.
