Title: display repair
Post by: ffcgary1 on 17 May 2014, 21:06:52
Have we ever been able to find a way to repair dead or intermittant missing pixels on pre facelift dsplays. or even a company that will repair them?
My display when it feels like it works properly and no dead pixels but when it feels like it i have 2 lines missing compleatly or some just glow slighty. ::)

I think the consensus is to replace the plugs and fit the post 1998 ones.

is there a guide to this procedure and what is the best model year to use for reliability?
i seem to remember that i have a yellow plug and a smaller grey plug.
2 bulbs as well.
3 sections on the display date at the top radio station in the middle and time at the bottom.

No guide, feel free to write one ;)

Any Post 1998 one is fine, and plentiful.

There is/was a guide on repairing the original unit on the Yahoo site. It's been a while since I've been there though  :-\

I had a dig in it.. its a bad design.. and even if you repair it will be same as before after a while.. or may be worse.. hot inside the unit (bulbs) damages the sticky conduction material..

I could use led bulbs to get round the heat issue, but it does cover the issue of heat albit breifly. I will get the repair kit and report back on the outcome.
thanks for the input cem, hope you and yours are all well.

Far easier to replace unit. Later ones are near bulletproof ;)
