Title: Finally... My 2.5 TD Facelift CDX Saloon
Post by: Sam Burton on 20 May 2014, 16:10:15
Hi Guys,

I Parted with my CDX 2.6 Auto as got offered double what i payed for it so decided to take on a project a little rough round the edges at the minute but some of you may have seen this car floating around eBay, but once i went to view theres a bit more to it than 'Spares and Repairs!!'

For the Last 23 Months she sat in a builders yard under a tree after the Previous owners wife decided a post was a good addition to the rear bumper!, Ive looked in depth of the work that has been carried out on the TD and turns out the Previous owner was not shy on spending money when needed on it, Its had a New Lift pump, refurbished Injectors New fuel Lines from tank To pump, Turbo and Intercooler. All this was done before she had a Prang, They then replaced this one with an Elite TD to which they still have today but rather than spend money on having it repaired it sat under its tree,

Coming to his senses he decided to put up on eBay as 'spares and repairs' as Tax and Mot had expired where it had been sitting for so long, he had is recovered from the yard to his house to where I purchased it from. aparently a few OOFers had been to view it but he refused the sale due to the fact it wasnt his it was hers!  ::) :o :D ;)

So Long story short (ish) here is the state of it when i first picked it up and had it delivered to my house and yes it really hadnt been cleaned since it stood Mould was starting to develop on the inside due to scuttle been blocked with so much Tree over the seasons.

Here you can see the damage to the rear Bumper and how-on-the-piss the Boot Lid is

UPDATE!!!

Right Quick update

Had a good Hour Exterior Clean using Wash'n'Wax and a Pressure washer to shift the Moss, Bird Shi#, Dust, Tree Sap, Branches, Leaves, Flowers, etc. and hasnt come up to bad and just as id finsihed cleaning the outside the New Replacement Bumper arrived do that was the next challenge.

Turns out the old bumper had done quite well from the impact as she had managed to bend the bolt-on slam panel as well so that had to be straightened, on closer inspection the impact had also cracked the rear lights on the nearside and where it had stood for so long they had so much water in i was looking for the fish! so replacements have been sourced (thanks RobG) and the old ones straight in the bin, New Bumper on and Bootlid realigned you couldnt tell what drama it went through, it looks a million times better than when i picked it up.

Too many are being broken for bits (no offence to those who do, money has to be made)

It's nice to see one getting new life  :y

Small Update

Right After managing to re-align the boot lid im still awaiting the replacement rear lights from Pat, Royal mail and there quick deliveries i suppose, either that or Jess isnt with him  ::) ;D :D

Anyways i decided investigate why the Screen Wash low warning was displayed on the dash, Turns out the Front Bumper is cracked very discretly around the front numberplate and one of the Headlamp washer jet clips had come undone so best take it off.

On removal theres again a bit more two it, The front Slam panel had bent slightly right in the middle but enough to crack the washer bottle  :-\ :-\ and also completly snapped off one of the front foglights from its fixing points  :-\ :-\ :-[ ??? but some good news i found the Headlamp washer jet clip sitting ontop of the Hose that feeds it  :o :D ??? God knows how long it had been balancing there  :D :-\

So here is what she looks like now, There is a good looking Facelift TD under there somewhere, just need to fix the years of neglect and run a caring magical wond called 'My Wallet' over it  ::) :o ;D :D ;) :)

Did the private plate stay with the car Sam? I love my TD estate but it has to go to make way for the nearly finished Monza

Update

I recieved my Bits from RobG and we had a disaster with the courier he dropped the box with the replacement light units in causing the OS Inner Light unit to Smash NOT GOOD!!, but the others fitted lovely  :y  ::) ??? :o :( ;D :D ;)
also recieved my replacement Fuel Cap Retaining Clip so now the Cover actually closes WOW!!  :o ;D ;D
(http://s29.postimg.org/cfysfbf3r/20140526_145005.jpg)
But anyhooooo, after i got my Flebay light unit for the NS Inner, i only had to source another Inner?

So that was that.....
Untill i recieved an email from a very quiet not well known member of OOF i dont actually know his Username all i know is his name is David,

Anyway David was informing me that he has a 2003 2.2 DTi Elite which very surprisingly has died due to Fuel Pump Issues, but its in Nocturno Blue  :y and where is he you ask? About 3 Miles from where i work  :y :y :y RESULT!!,

So Saturday afternoon i go and visit David on his farm and there sat a Very sorry looking 03' Elite To which he said he was scrapping due to Bodywork issues aswell as having a hard life etc. so what ever i need i could have, so my parts list is considerabily shortened  now  :y 8) :o ;) :)

So now i have a straight Slam panel, Screen Wash bottle, un-broken front foglights and even better Correct Colour Door Mirrors  :o 8) :y :y
(http://s4.postimg.org/8zdvjsk65/20140526_144910.jpg)

alot of Interior Bits and bobs that were missing  :y and more importantly a Pro-Drive Boot Lip Spoiler in Nocturno Blue which just had to be fitted asap  :y ::) ;D :D
(http://s17.postimg.org/jh7if8apb/20140526_144940.jpg)

My List is parts list is still there, but a heck of a lot shorter due to lots of miscellaneous items been sourced from David's Poorly Elite

Looks Like my CDX TD might actaully get the attention it needed for so many years :)

That's coming along nicely :y.  And good to here that local members were able to help you out.

I reckon those little lip spoilers make all the different to the arses of facelifts :)

Are you considering converting to manual? I reckon the auto isn't well suited to the TD engine.

Aye, can't say fairer than that :).

I had a MFL TD Elite saloon, and the gearbox (AR35, due to chipped, but ratios the same) used to frustrate me daily.  Economy was also below expected, esp around town

UPDATE

Right Guys,

Dave (dejbear) popped in to work today to deliver my replacement alloys for the TD, After removing the Racing slick Dunlops and a Runway  :o

They had a good Clean up and i decided they needed some good rubber(with tread ::) ;D :D ;)), luckily i had some Michelin Pilot Sport 3's which i had in the shed, anyways, tyres Fitted, balanced and put on the car and here she is  :y :)

Currently working on customising an Irmscher Backbox for it so no more droopy crust tail pipe :y
Hopefully De-Badge the doors Monday as well as replace the Broken glovebox and Centre Console Lid

as you can see the battle scar on the Front Bumper is looking more visable now things are starting to look good, so im up to See RobG next month to get various bits and bobs and an Omega thats breaking(not on OOF) which has got a bumper plus a few other bits, so hopefully will start looking like something to be proud of soon , Luckily my time scale on the TD Project is quite Big so plenty of time to get everything right before it hits the road for the first time :) ;) :y

You had me worried there - I thought the SL had gone up the Gary, before remembering CDXs do not have self levelling. Then I noticed the front was off the ground, and it all became apparent that it was up in the air. Phew!
