All, is there a picture somewhere that identifies the EMS and emissions light and what they signify.
I know which is which but the guy in the garage keeps telling me i am wrong!
Thanks in advance
-
Sorry should have said, my car is a Y reg 2.2 petrol auto estate..
-
What do you mean by EMS?
If you get up my way, I'll happily read the codes for you... ...had I known earlier, I drove through Dunstable on Sunday ::)

Engine Managment System ECU
-
You taking about the spanner light vs engine management light?
-
There are 2, one looks like an engine, one is a car with a spanner.
What are the symptoms, and which one is on?
-
both, i know which is which but is there a picture showing them and what they are?

The story is, I have the exhaust emissions light on (the engine without spanner), this is normally lambda sensors, however, the guy in the garage keeps telling me that that is the EMS light and the one with the spanner is the ‘body’ light. I know that that one is the EMS (ECU) light. But he would not have it; hence, I was looking for a photograph or diagram indicating clearly which is which and what they mean.
The car has no symptoms of a problem, drives perfectly well.
Thanks

If *either* come on, you have to read the codes, as there is a lot of crossover between emmissions faults and electrical faults.
Is the EML on now (or keep coming on intermittently)?
-
Thanks for the manual 8)
EML light is on all the time.
Has been for about a year!

Sorry. ..I dont know the codes
You need to read them :y

Can you recommend a low cost reader that works on the Omega?

Not for this specific application, as you need to read gearbox and ABS as well.
-
Why gearbox and ABS? They are separate lights.

I am told these work well. They link by bluetouth to an app on phone or ipad.
you can even reset the fault codes.
gona try one tomorrow.
-
They won't read gearbox or ABS. Only engine codes.
-
Thats fine.
Both of those are good 8)

Because in this case, both gearbox and ABS can cause the engine ECU to throw a monk, without bringing on their own warnings. All 3 sit an chat on a (half-arsed) CANBUS, so a minor glitch on one can throw the others into a tizz.

Ive used the bluetooth adaptor on the transit and the frontera, reads codes ok and does reset engine light, and also give any pending codes, used carista on android phone :y

It'll read whatever the car's OBDII implementation pushes through, which on the 2.2 is engine only. Most other OBDII cars push through the drivetrain codes as well, esp those with combined engine/drivetrain ECUs

OBD2 - pending:
P0100 - Mass or Volume Air Flow "A" Circuit
P1700
P1781
Very impressed with the reader! ::)
-
P100 IS THE MAF CODE SO CHECK THE MAF AND CONNECTION
BOTH THE 1700 CODES ARE GEARBOX RELATED.
P1700 IS SVS REQUEST
P1781 IS UNKNOWN TO ME ::)
Sorry not shouting
-
What is svs request?
How do I check the MAF?
-
P1700 means you need to check the TCM for codes ::)
Did the MAF one disappear, and stay disappeared when you cleared the codes out?
-
No. It comes straight back on. :-\

P1781 On the old forum they mention that this error was caused by a faulty Cam sensor. :y
Very impressed with the reader! ::)
Do you have any problems starting the car, may be taking longer to start than usual? If yes then it would point to a faulty cam sensor.
Hope this helps.
-
Not generally. ...it has on occasion not strated but...turn if off ....wait a minute and it starts right away.
This is a rare occurrence.
