Does anyone know what size spanner is needed to get the radiator fan switch (the upper of the two) off? There's so much
rubbish really important stuff around it (not least the battery tray) that I need to cut down a spanner to stand any chance of getting in there; or get a large enough deep socket (I can't remember now if a socket would pass over the connector)..
Even then I suspect it'll just rip the boss out of the radiator, but it's worth a shot!

Dunno. Can't remember, but I saw no way at all to get to them, so removed the rad from the car. I realise your top shroud screws are rusted in, but its mo biggy to drill the heads off and remove the stud with pliers or a reverse drill, then fit new screws.
It's also a good opportunity to gently blow any crap out from the front of the rad and flush it repeatedly while its out.
You'll need new douty washers for the switches too.
Removing the rad is an easy ish job, inlet out. Pliers for the two retaining clips, remove the two hoses and plug connectors, lift it out with the fan assembly.

24 or 27 mm rings a bell :-\ iirc, you can get a ring spanner on it, so a deep socket should work :y

Franklin tools and j. and s. products among others do a socket with a slit in it to pass over wires such as injector sockets and if it is a 24 or 27mm i am sure they do that size....maybe worth a look

IIRC its a 27mm - not a dowty washer but a plain copper washer fitted ;)

Wrong. Its defo a Dowty ;)

Off memory... two switches, one has a dowty tother doesn't. Certainly I didn't renew either ::)

Swapped a number of radiators, and refitted old switches to new radiators - all had flat copper seals, none had dowty seals. Sure you know what a dowty seal is?

Dowty seals not usually reusable despite info to the contary - rubber insert easily damaged when removing. Cheap enough to replace with new ;)

Ta folks - I'll have another bash at this at the weekend I think; timescales shortened due to the M3 now making this godawful noise from the clutch ;D
While we're on it - does anyone have the part numbers for the two sensors? If not I shall give GM a bell later today.
And I think I know the answer to this but it pays to check; the radiator that ECP sell says it will not fit if the car has a separate gearbox oil cooler (which I believe all 3.2s do), but that's not strictly true IIRC? You just don't use the oil cooler connections but otherwise the radiator is the same?
