Hello,
My 2001 3.0 Elite has a leaking rear shock absorber (red fluid oozing out).
I need to discover if my car has self-leveling shock absorbers on the rear?
Found a good link for how to replace them:
http://oldsite.omegaowners.com//forum/YaBB.pl?num=1208460516
But need to know which shock absorber to buy?
Many thanks,
Andy

look at the shocks closley .. if they each have a thin tube connected to them, that joins up and then runs towards the front of the car, you have self levelling as that is the airline that adjusts them. The air pump is behind the front offside wing
-
When you first turn the ignition key you will hear a pump run for a few seconds, this is the suspension pump priming the system, it is located just forward of the drivers side front wheel arch.
Also you will find small bore pipes going to the shockers. this will indicate if self leveling is present.

Just gone under the car and the shock absorber has a small black pipe attached to the side near the top.
I gather this is self-leveling?
How much are these shock-absorbers? I hope they are not dealer only!
Cheers,
Andy

....
How much are these shock-absorbers?
About £150 a pair on Trade Club
I hope they are not dealer only!
....
Afraid so :(

The only good news is the guide on here is spot on.............even i managed to do mine :)

What is Trade Club?
Never heard of it? :-\

Easy check...
Do your rear shocks have a 6" rubber sleeve in the middle?
If yes, self levelling :y
If not, they will have been replaced with normal ones... not ideal...
Facelift Elites would all have left the factory with self levelling rear suspension btw :y
-
Yes - the rubber sleeve is there = self-leveling.
The cheapest I can find per side is £128.40 per side from Vauxhall's ebay site.
That's expensive! Sadly, I do not appear to qualify for Trade Club!
How much more money does this car eat????
Cheers,
Andy

Put up your location and see if somebody close by to you could sort out them on TC for you...about £75 each side on TC

I live in:-
South Shields
Tyne & Wear
Cheers :y

Rather than fret about it, pop in to local VX dealer and ask for best price :y will still be £100 each most likely, but better than a knick in the knackers with a sharp boot...
That Vauxhall ebay shop is pigging expensive... the price of laziness, imho :y
-
Simple mathematics now ... Items cost £128 x 2 = £256 direct from VX
same items purchased using Trade Club around £75 x 2 = £150
Difference is £106
Cost of getting a trade club card via Autobahnstormers ... £25
saving on this one transaction ... £81.00 .. plus future savings throughout the year .. :)
IMHO .. no brainer ...

Go for it :)

Thanks for that.
I just join them and I will be eligible for Trade Club?
If so I will join right away.
Many thanks for letting me know of this :y

They send you a membership card which you use to get TC prices from a vauxhall dealer who is part of the TC network ... might be worth checking if your local dealer is TC or not as many left the network last year.
EDIT :
According to the web site, Bristol Street Motors, Newcastle, NE4 7DF look to be your nearest TC participating dealers.. HTH :)
