hi guys
front fog light works but has a broken glass is it an mot fail, cheers
-
Yes think so
-
I thought front fogs were not motable as they are not fitted to every car as standard like the rears. I wait to be corrected

Correct - won't fail, unless there's sharp edges that could injure. In this case, only if you regularly drive past Wonka's chocolate factory...

I believe that if fitted the glass must be intact otherwise it is deemed a safety hazard to pedestrians should you touch one .. :(
Easiest solution is to simply remove the broken light unit completely for the MOT :)

Pop both off and they won't even attract an advisory :y

Agreed, Al.
My recollection is that non-obligatory lights, if fitted, must function and be fitted in pairs, equally disposed about the centre line of the vehicle - so remove both.
As foglights are an option, removing them will not attract comment.

Had the same with the Saab, tester said pop some tape over it and it will be fine

'My' MOT tester has never ever even turned my front fogs on on any car I've taken for MOT so I assume that they don't need to function

Although your tester might not check. If its on the car it must work at time of inspection. If glass is cracked in lens as long as its not dangerous if someone touched it then its fine

Additional or optional lamps are not included in the inspection. ;)

might be optional but will still fail if the glass is cracked and has sharp edges in the lens

Agreed! But it's not required to work ;)
